Aspire People are currently recruiting for an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Leicester. This role would suit someone who has experience working with children or young people with social, emotional and mental health needs, and who can provide consistent support in a calm and positive way. You will play an important role in helping pupils manage their emotions, develop positive relationships and engage with their education.

The Role

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs
  • Help pupils manage emotions, anxiety and challenging situations
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Support classroom learning and encourage engagement
  • Use positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
  • Work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to support individual needs
  • Encourage pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is essential
  • Experience supporting SEMH, behaviour or additional needs
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to remain professional when managing challenging situations
  • Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
