We are delighted to be working on an exclusive basis with our manufacturing client who is now looking for a Buyer/Purchasing Administrator to join their small but friendly and busy team. The role would suit someone looking for a great opportunity. You will have a minimum of 1 year’s buying/purchasing experience ideally buying components rather than a finished product – either as part of your job in a smaller company or you have a little buying experience and are now looking for the next challenge. You will have an interest in manufacturing and that environment. This is not a role for an office junior unfortunately.
As a person you will be:
- Inquisitive
- A great communicator – happy to pick up the phone and talk to people!
- Motivated to learn
- Ability to work on own initiative
- A quick learner and want to learn more
- IT literate and quick to pick up new software platforms – ideally having used an ERP software package and experience of how MRP works
- Have good Excel experience (ideally be able to do V lookups) as well as Word and PowerPoint
- Have the ability to ask lots of questions to learn and develop
- Be able to work in a fast-paced time critical environment
You will be responsible as part of a small team for the “on time” supply of procured parts, assemblies and services. You will ensure that the needs of the business are met whilst helping to deliver the company strategy. You will work within an Operations team and will also support the Manufacturing Site Manager by undertaking product/part costings. Every product built is totally bespoke and you will be working with replenishment lists to ensure that enough stock is available to build the products. You will liaise effectively with your colleagues in purchasing, operations and stores.
If you understand engineering drawings and Bills of Materials (BOM) then that would be preferred but not essential as training will be given. The successful candidate will have high attention to detail and excellent time management skills as well as being able to work in a tight-knit team and be self-motivated. Above all you will have an enthusiastic and energetic personality and want to absorb your Manager’s experience and understanding to develop your own experience and career.
A big part of the role will be going out to UK suppliers to get the best price – this is often done by email, but you should also be comfortable with picking up the phone and talking to them and negotiating. You will then be responsible for collating that information, recording and consolidating it. You must be able to cope with detail and be able to buy at the right time at the right price. This really is a brilliant opportunity for someone with a little buying/purchasing experience to learn and grow. You will have the opportunity to learn new skills and take on a lot of initiatives after training.
