We are currently recruiting for a Transport Planner to join a dynamic and fast-paced transport team, supporting the scheduling, vehicle planning, and driver coordination for the nationwide movement of heavy plant machinery across construction sites in the UK.

The Candidate:

  • Proven experience in transport route planning, ideally within the construction, plant hire, or heavy machinery sector.
  • Strong understanding of HGV operations and relevant transportation regulations.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, especially when under pressure or facing tight deadlines.
  • Confident with Transport Management Systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a professional approach to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of Drivers' Hours and Working Time Directive Regulations.
  • Familiar with vehicle maintenance scheduling and compliance checks.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to take initiative.
  • A full, valid UK driving licence.
  • Previous experience in the construction or plant sector is advantageous.

Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently manage and plan the movement of plant machinery to and from sites across the UK.
  • Coordinate HGV deliveries and collections in line with project deadlines and customer requirements.
  • Work closely with site managers and project teams to align transportation needs with site activity.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, drivers, and third-party logistics providers.
  • Ensure all delivery documentation is accurately issued, collected, and verified.
  • Proactively resolve transportation issues or delays by communicating with relevant parties and adjusting plans accordingly.
  • Monitor performance of service providers and ensure SLA compliance.
  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety, environmental, and transport regulations.
  • Maintain accurate transport operation records, logs, and reports.
  • Support the development of new transport systems, including tracking, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota where required.
