I am recruiting on behalf of my client, a well-established provider of high-voltage infrastructure and engineering services operating throughout the UK.

About the Company

The organisation is a trusted partner in delivering high-voltage electrical solutions for utility networks, renewable energy developers, and industrial customers. They specialise in full project lifecycle support, offering expertise from design and installation through to testing, energisation, and final project handover. Safety, technical excellence, and innovation are at the core of their operations.

Due to continued growth, they are now seeking experienced High Voltage Testing & Commissioning Engineers to join their field-based engineering team.

The Role

As an HV Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe and effective testing and commissioning of high-voltage electrical systems (up to 132kV and above), ensuring full compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and client requirements. This is a site-based position requiring nationwide travel, supporting projects from initial energisation through to system validation and handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out primary and secondary injection testing, protection relay testing, and SCADA system integration
  • Prepare and execute commissioning plans, RAMS, ITPs, switching schedules, and test procedure
  • Work alongside Senior Authorised Persons (SAPs), project teams, and clients to coordinate energisation and site activities
  • Fault-finding and troubleshooting to ensure all systems are safe, functional and operational
  • Maintain high-quality project documentation and produce detailed commissioning and test reports
  • Provide support and technical guidance to junior engineers
  • Contribute to ongoing process improvement and safety performance

Requirements

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent qualification)
  • Demonstrable experience in HV commissioning within utilities, renewable energy, or substation environments
  • Familiarity with engineering test equipment and protection systems such as Omicron, Megger, Micom, Siemens, ABB, Schneider or similar platforms
  • Existing authorisations under relevant safety rules (for example – utilities or transmission network safety certification)
  • Strong understanding of Safe Systems of Work and RAMS
  • Full UK Driving Licence
