We are working with a growing metals business that is looking to appoint an experienced Metal Buyer to join their commercial team based in Sheffield. This is a key role focused on the buying and selling of metallic commodities, developing supplier relationships, identifying new opportunities, and maximising value from recycled metal streams.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background within the metals industry, with proven experience trading with waste management companies, recycling businesses, or industrial suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Buy and sell a range of grades and materials
  • Develop and maintain relationships with waste companies, recyclers, manufacturers and suppliers
  • Source new opportunities and grow the supply network
  • Negotiate purchasing and sales prices to maximise commercial returns
  • Manage customer accounts and develop long term trading relationships
  • Understand market movements and pricing trends
  • Work closely with operations teams to ensure efficient material flow
  • Maintain accurate records of trading activity, pricing and supplier/customer information

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience trading metal (buying and selling)
  • Strong knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals including:
    • Aluminium
    • Stainless Steel
    • Brass
    • Copper
    • Ferrous grades
    • Zorba
  • Experience working with waste management companies, recyclers, scrap businesses or industrial suppliers
  • Strong commercial and negotiation skills
  • Sales focused with the ability to build and develop relationships
  • Understanding of metal grades, pricing and market conditions
  • Self-motivated and commercially driven
