An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Semi Skilled Operative to join a leading bulk terminal and port logistics operation based in Barton upon Humber. This major UK port group handles millions of tonnes of cargo every year and plays a critical role in supporting the energy, construction, manufacturing and agriculture sectors. The Role of the Semi Skilled Operative

The Semi Skilled Operative will support the maintenance and operation of plant, machinery and port equipment across the site. This is a hands on role suited to a Semi Skilled Operative with experience in heavy industry, ports, manufacturing, maintenance, fabrication or mechanical environments.

Responsibilities of the Semi Skilled Operative:

  • Assisting with mechanical fitting and maintenance activities
  • Painting and general upkeep of plant and equipment
  • Using hand tools and maintenance equipment safely
  • Supporting planned preventative maintenance activities
  • Assisting engineers and fitters with repairs and breakdowns
  • Working on conveyors, machinery and industrial equipment
  • Completing maintenance records and service sheets
  • Working safely within permit to work systems
  • Working at height and in confined spaces when required

Requirements of the Semi Skilled Operative

  • Semi skilled engineering experience or a good hands on mechanical background
  • Experience within ports, heavy industry, manufacturing, processing plants or similar environments
  • Experience in pipefitting, plating, welding, fabrication, machine operating or maintenance
  • Comfortable using hand tools and maintenance equipment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good awareness of health and safety procedures
  • Comfortable working at height and in confined spaces
  • Full UK Driving Licence
