Summary
Overall responsibility for leading and managing the joinery operations within the workshop, ensuring that all manufactured joinery is produced safely, to the required quality and in accordance with agreed programmes and budgets. The Joinery Manager controls the day-to-day activities of the bench joinery team, coordinates with CNC/machining Supervisor and takes a proactive role in problem solving and continuous improvement across the workshop.
Role and Responsibilities
- Planning and Monitoring
- Works with the Logistics Manager to ensure programmes and key dates are met.
- Check job boards and ensure all work instructions, drawings, and schedules are understood by the team. Plan the works and raise queries in a timely manner.
- Monitor progress against programme tasks and feedback any issues to the Production Manager.
- Support with materials control – check stock levels, prepare lists for ordering, and organise job materials for efficient working.
- Record completed works and report to the Production Manager for production close-out.
- Operations
- Manage the day-to-day running of the workshop floor.
- Ensure materials, tools, and finished goods are stored in an orderly and accessible manner.
- Manage packaging and loading of goods for site deliveries.
- Issue clear work instructions/drawings to the team.
- Support in maintaining workshop cleanliness, equipment care, and general property upkeep.
- Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)
- Lead daily supervision of safe working practices on the shop floor.
- Deliver daily activity briefings and toolbox talks under guidance from the Production Manager.
- Carry out weekly visual checks on tools, machinery, and vehicles (reporting issues to the Production Manager).
- Maintain good housekeeping standards and ensure waste is cleared and segregated correctly.
- Quality
- Setting the standards and improving the quality of our joinery – driving that quality at every stage.
- Apply quality control checks during and after production.
- Flag any defects or issues to the Production Manager before goods leave the factory.
- Ensure all works comply with project drawings, specifications, and FSC requirements.
- Line Management
- Supervise and motivate joiners, apprentices, and finishers during daily tasks.
- Provide on-the-job training, guidance, and support as required.
- Act as first point of contact for staff queries on the workshop floor.
- Escalate performance or resource issues to the Production Manager.
Key Objectives
- Deliver work packages on time, to programme and quality expectations.
- Maintain safe and tidy workshop conditions in line with company HSE requirements.
- Support the Production Manager with accurate reporting, planning, and scheduling.
- Help guide, train, and maintain an engaged and productive workforce.
