Govanhill Housing Association is seeking an outstanding leader to join its senior management team as Director of Development & Property Services. This is a key appointment at a significant point in the Association’s journey, following the recent recruitment of a new Chief Executive and the forthcoming retirement of the current Director of Development & Property Services.
The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping the future of the organisation’s homes, assets and neighbourhoods. Govanhill Housing Association is a community-controlled organisation based in the southside of Glasgow, serving the communities of Govanhill, one of the city’s most diverse and established neighbourhoods, and Merrylee. The Association owns and manages over 2,800 homes for social rent and provides factoring services to around 1,500 owners, alongside wider regeneration and community development through its subsidiary, Govanhill Community Development Trust.
The Director of Development & Property Services will lead a substantial portfolio covering asset management and compliance, development, maintenance services and factoring. As a member of the senior management team, the postholder will advise the Chief Executive and governing bodies and lead strategic planning, development and property services. They will, alongside other members of the senior management team, oversee significant budgets and ensure the delivery of high-quality, value-for-money services for tenants and owners.
The role will have particular responsibility for the stewardship and improvement of a complex housing stock, including traditional pre-1919 tenements, overseeing major and planned investment, repairs and landlord health and safety. The Director will also lead and where possible take forward the Association’s development programme, through new build, acquisitions and regeneration projects, with a strong focus on quality, financial sustainability and meeting housing need.
A key aspect of the role will be shaping and delivering the Association’s approach to net zero and retrofit, securing funding and embedding long-term sustainability within asset and development strategies. Strong procurement and contract management skills will be essential as will a detailed knowledge of property management, landlord and contract health and safety.
This role requires an experienced senior leader with a strong track record in development and property services, a collaborative leadership style and a clear commitment to community-based housing. It offers the opportunity to play a defining role in a respected organisation with ambitious plans and a clear social purpose.
