What you'll do
- Manage risks within the construction sector with significant responsibility and collaborate with colleagues across departments to ensure operational plans are executed effectively.
- Guide compliance matters and maintain high standards of accuracy in all transactions.
- Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including brokers, clients, and internal teams, to deliver exceptional service.
- Contribute to the development and monitoring of operational plans aligned with the UK construction portfolio and overall business priorities.
- Set work priorities in line with objectives to achieve underwriting targets within delegated authority.
- Advise colleagues on best practices, compliance standards, and accurate execution of transactions across varied complexities.
- Review processes to enhance compliance, effectiveness, and risk management; respond to internal queries as a subject matter expert.
- Negotiate rates, terms, and conditions for new and existing construction insurance business with accurate contract documentation.
- Support credit control activities related to underwriting transactions.
- Participate in portfolio reviews and analyses to track progress toward business objectives and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Mentor junior underwriters and support their development within the team.
What you bring
- Extensive experience underwriting or broking within the UK construction insurance sector or similar specialised/complex areas.
- Strong technical understanding of class-specific underwriting parameters, reinsurance programmes, delegated authorities, risk profiling tools, pricing models, and EPA (Expected Profitability Analysis) requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for collaboration with colleagues at all levels and with external partners such as brokers or clients.
- Strong organisational abilities to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel) and other software used for reporting or data analysis.
- Customer-focused mindset with attention to detail when producing management information or analyzing data for decision-making.
- Ability to plan effectively both independently and as part of a team, balancing multiple tasks without compromising quality.
