Daily Rate: £681.16/day (Umbrella – Maximum)

My client is seeking an experienced Project Security Adviser/Built Asset Security Advisor to provide expert security engineering and protective security advice across a portfolio of high-security facilities and infrastructure projects. This role will support the design, development, review, and assurance of secure environments, including Containment Level 3 and 4 laboratories and other sensitive government facilities. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure security requirements are embedded throughout the project lifecycle, helping to safeguard critical national assets and maintain compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and industry best practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist security engineering advice for the design, development, and review of secure facilities, particularly high-containment laboratories and sensitive government buildings.
  • Review site perimeter security arrangements, including Hostile Vehicle Mitigation measures, and develop recommendations for security enhancements.
  • Lead and support security risk assessments, threat analyses, and vulnerability studies for high-risk environments.
  • Develop, review, and assure security design documentation, including protective security strategies, technical specifications, and assurance reports.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, programme teams, and security stakeholders to integrate security measures into complex infrastructure projects.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and security frameworks throughout project delivery.
  • Advise on digital engineering security requirements, including BIM-related security controls and secure information management.
  • Support design reviews, governance activities, construction assurance, commissioning, and operational readiness reviews.
  • Provide senior-level advice on emergency planning, secure operations, and high-threat scenario preparedness.

Essential Experience

  • Significant experience as a Security Engineer, Security Specialist, or Security Adviser within the built environment.
  • Experience supporting highly secure, regulated, or high-containment facilities.
  • Strong understanding of physical, technical, and operational security design principles.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, threat analyses, and security assurance activities.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of:
    • Schedule 5 of the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001
    • ISO 19650-5:2020 (Security-minded approach to BIM)
    • ISO 23234:2021 (Security for BIM and built assets)
  • Knowledge of the NPSA Surreptitious Threat Mitigation Process and its practical application.
  • Ability to communicate complex security requirements to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in high-consequence environments.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working with government departments, national security organisations, scientific research establishments, or emergency response agencies.
  • Knowledge of secure digital engineering processes and high-security BIM environments.
  • Experience advising on protective security measures for critical national infrastructure.

Qualifications and Professional Memberships

  • Membership of the Register of Security Engineers and Specialists (RSES).
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Protection Against Forced Entry
    • Hostile Vehicle Mitigation
  • Relevant professional qualifications in security engineering, protective security, risk management, engineering, or a related discipline are advantageous.
