Pharmacy assistant duties and responsibilities
A pharmacy assistant performs a wide variety of tasks that can include anything from preparing pills and labelling medication to receiving customers and preparing prescriptions for patients. They should be able to operate the cash registers and manage inventory in and out. Below are some of the day-to-day duties of pharmacy assistants:
- Label medication, which can be in bottles, tablets or other formats
- Operate the cash register and manage payments
- Provide advice to customers about non-prescription items
- Provide medicines on prescription
- Manage orders from customers
- Manage the inventory by restocking shelves
- Enter data relating to medicine on computerised systems
- Take calls from GP surgeries, clinics or nursing homes
