The Assistant Buyer plays a key role within the Buying Team. This role involves developing amazing products and building fashion-forward, commercial ranges that meet sales and margin targets. You will work closely with your Buyer, as well as Design, Technical, and Merchandising teams, Suppliers, or Brands, to develop and buy a range loved by our fashion-forward 20-something customer.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Supporting the Buyer in sourcing and developing products
  • Overseeing the fitting and sealing of samples
  • Helping to build a commercial and fashion-forward relevant range with constant newness for our 20-something customer
  • Building strong relationships with suppliers, especially for negotiating costs and delivery dates
  • Trading within the season to maximize sales and profits, working at a fast and reactive pace
  • Contributing to department strategy by identifying risks and opportunities using data, and presenting these to the Buyer & Merchandiser
  • Influencing the department or brand to optimize sales performance
  • Collaborating with Design and Merchandising teams to build the range, analyze sales data, and justify decisions based on trends and trade elements
  • Monitoring global competitors' pricing, products, and current affairs, and presenting findings
  • Presenting CUM BTA in the Buyer's absence, with clear trading actions
  • Managing the critical path and highlighting risks of missed deadlines
  • Working with Sourcing and Technical teams on sourcing, ethical, garment tech, and fabric considerations
  • Overseeing the training and development of Buyers Administrators

Qualifications:

We'd love to meet someone who:

  • Has previous Fashion Buying experience as an Assistant Buyer within Menswear in a fast-paced, global retailer or brand
  • Lives and breathes fashion and is passionate about the product
  • Understands 20-something culture and the ASOS customer, with the ability to spot relevant trends
  • Is highly organized, proactive, and able to work under pressure
  • Has great attention to detail for all product attributes and deadlines
  • Can build strong relationships with retail teams and suppliers
  • Demonstrates the ASOS values: Authentic, Brave, Creative, and Disciplined
  • Communicates and presents effectively at all levels
  • Has experience with relevant trading systems and MS Office
