Job Description
The role:
The role sits within the Tax team and focuses on indirect tax compliance, governance and controls across the global business. The role’s purpose is to ensure the effective operation of the end-to-end VAT compliance and reporting processes, including clear balance sheet reconciliations. It will also identify opportunities for improvement of processes and work closely with the Tax Transformation Team to deliver indirect tax process improvements and automation. The role will line manage a small team to deliver the indirect tax compliance agenda. It will work with the indirect tax advisory senior manager to implement and test changes to indirect tax compliance processes and systems to ensure continued compliance with legislative requirements.
The Details
- Own the compliance processes end to end including timely and accurate reporting and payments for all indirect tax returns. This will include regular interactions with our outsourced compliance provider, the accounts payable team and the financial accounting team
- Manage a small team (approx. 3), supervise their day-to-day work and help them develop & grow in their careers at ASOS;
- Work with the Head of Indirect Tax & Customs and the indirect tax advisory senior manager to set the strategic direction for the indirect tax function;
- Work with indirect tax advisory senior manager and the indirect tax compliance team to implement and test changes to processes and systems to ensure VAT compliance and accurate reporting;
- Involve in the preparation and delivery of VAT training to the wider finance team;
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of effective and efficient indirect tax processes and controls;
- With assistance from the indirect tax compliance team, provide support, data and compliance insights to the indirect tax advisory senior manager to answer queries from HMRC and other tax authorities;
- Work with the Tax Transformation Team, Fintech and Indirect Tax Team in identifying data risks and issues, and resolving data issues;
- Work with the Tax Transformation Team and the broader Indirect Tax team to identify and implement improvements to indirect tax processes, including the delivery of automation projects and ensuring that indirect tax processes are properly documented and kept up to date; and
- Support external auditors with providing appropriate supporting documentation.

Qualifications
About You
- A tax accounting qualification(preferably ATT, ACCA or ACA) and at least 8 years of experience;
- Experience of managing both UK and global (including the US) indirect tax compliance and accounting processes for businesses;
- Demonstrated success of building and leading effective teams;
- Experience of dealing with tax authority enquiries and audits;
- A proven ability to plan and prioritise workload to meet tight deadlines;
- An ability to find solutions and to take initiative;
- Good communication/interpersonal and influencing skills;
- Flexibility and openness to change; and
- Proactiveness.
