Job Description
We’re looking for an Engineering Lead to own and lead the Technology Cost Management capability within Digital Foundation, as part of the Fin Ops Product Group.
This role is accountable for the overall direction, prioritisation, and success of the capability, creating a single trusted view of technology spend and turning that into better decisions, stronger governance, and measurable cost outcomes across cloud, software, and assets.
Technology Cost Management sits at the intersection of engineering, finance, and procurement.
The Engineering Lead will define how cost data, insight, and optimisation are delivered as cohesive products and services that improve financial accountability without slowing delivery.
Purpose of the Role
This role exists to ensure that technology investment at ASOS is transparent, well-governed, and optimised for value.
- Create a trusted view of technology spend and ownership
- Drive active optimisation of cloud, software, and asset costs
- Provide decision-grade insight into technology spend and budgeting
- Turn insight into governance, policy, and decision support
This role is not focused on a single cost domain — it owns the integration, prioritisation, and outcomes across all areas of Technology Cost Management.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategy
- Set the vision, priorities, and roadmap for Technology Cost Management
- Own prioritisation and trade-offs across competing demands and limited capacity
- Build and lead a multidisciplinary team across data, analytics, and commercial insight
- Operate a single, integrated team backlog that spans all areas of Technology Cost Management
- Ensure the team operates as one cohesive capability, not siloed pillars
- Product & Capability Ownership
- Own delivery across cost intelligence, cloud economics, software/Saa S/asset economics, and governance
- Ensure outputs are trusted, consistent, and easy to use
- Balance investment across data foundations, optimisation, and decision support
- Cost Insight, Optimisation & Control
- Establish a clear and consistent cost model and allocation approach
- Drive a pipeline of optimisation opportunities across cloud, software, and asset domains
- Provide visibility of non-cloud spend, renewals, and commercial exposure
- Embed forecasting, cost controls, and performance tracking
- Governance & Decision Support
- Define and implement cost governance, policies, and guardrails
- Turn analysis into business cases and decision-ready outputs
- Support leadership with insight for investment, renewal, and optimisation decisions
- Ensure value delivered is tracked and visible
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Engineering, Finance, Procurement, and teams across Digital Foundation
- Represent Technology Cost Management to senior stakeholders
- Influence through data and insight rather than mandate
- Align outputs to planning, budgeting, and decision-making cycles
- What Success Looks Like
- A single trusted view of technology spend and ownership
- Clear, defensible cost allocation and forecasting
- A visible pipeline of delivered optimisation outcomes
- Adoption of cost governance and decision frameworks
- Evidence that cost insight is driving decisions, not just reporting
