We are looking for an inspiring and strategic Inbound Supply Chain Director to lead and optimise ASOS’s global inbound supply chain operations. This role is a fantastic opportunity to drive efficiencies, strengthen partnerships, and make a real impact on how we move stock from source to warehouse. You’ll be at the heart of shaping seamless freight, customs, and duty processes on a global scale, helping to accelerate products from origin to market. This is a hybrid working role, with an expectation to be in our London office a minimum of 4 days per week.
The Details
- Oversee and collaborate with both long haul and short haul freight providers: Manage and coordinate with our commercial teams to ensure timely and complete delivery of products across our warehouse network in Barnsley and Berlin.
- Supply Chain Expertise: We are looking for an individual with practical experience in managing large-scale retail or e-commerce volumes through a multi-nodal network. The ideal candidate should have substantial experience in supply chain management, port operations, and air freight.
- Budget Management: Responsible for overseeing the supply chain budget, which includes sea freight lanes, air freight, European short haul, inbound pre-processing, and customs and duty management.
- Leadership in Reviews: Lead monthly and quarterly reviews in collaboration with senior stakeholders and direct reports, focusing on our five key pillars within the supply chain: people, customers, quality, suppliers, and efficiency.
- Supply Chain Continuous Improvement: Own a global inbound continuous improvement agenda which requires a strategic vision, dedication to operational excellence, and the ability to foster collaboration across diverse teams. Establish comprehensive commercial and customer impact metrics with a clear roadmap to achieve success.
- Stakeholder Management: Manage and develop relationships with key stakeholders in the business, including Trading, Commercial, Finance, Legal, Technology, and Customer Care. Supporting our culture by championing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion strategies.
Qualifications
- Experience in logistics or supply chain, such as a certificate of professional competence, advanced customs practitioner and IOSH, is also desirable.
- Knowledge of customs and duty regulations obtained either through a Level 5 Diploma in World Customs Compliance and Regulations or substantial experience managing customs processes (including bonded warehouse and AEO status).
- Further education in business administration, logistics, supply chain management or a related field is desirable.
- Extensive experience in supply chain, ideally with a background in senior freight roles.
- Prior experience working with known freight providers such as MSC, Maersk, Davies Turner etc.
- Prior experience in successfully bonding a German warehouse in line with customs authorities.
About You
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Managed a supply chain budget (including sea freight, road haulage, port operations, customs and duty) exceeding £150 million.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills; adept at multitasking and prioritising in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise board papers that present relevant information, analysis and recommendations in a comprehensive manner.
- Demonstrated experience in managing freight suppliers through contractual rate negotiations, consistently achieving results that surpass the Shanghai Freight Index.
- Manage and improve executive metrics for product delivery performance, covering from PO creation to go-live in FCs, specifically on improving time to market.
- A key business partner to the EVP Product, ensuring our supply chain aligns seamlessly with product goals.
- Willingness to travel as required, with the role being based in the London head office.
