The Head of Indirect Tax & Customs plays a key role within the Tax department. Indirect taxes are a key component of ASOS's supply chain and require proactive management to ensure compliance in a fast-changing global landscape. ASOS has created this role to support the Director of Tax in overseeing and supporting the indirect tax agenda, due to the increase in compliance obligations, strategic planning and business partnering required going forwards.
The Details
- Leading a team to manage the Customs and VAT agenda through legislative changes, digitisation requirements and business changes and ensure ongoing compliance.
- Monitoring the impact of Indirect Taxes on ASOS's balance sheet and income statement and ensuring accurate accounting and regular balance sheet reconciliations.
- Proactive solutions to reduce the working capital impact of Indirect Taxes, including successful interactions with our business units in supply chain restructurings.
- Lead indirect tax compliance, including making tax digital requirements, working with external consultants where required to ensure timely and accurate submission of relevant returns in all jurisdictions in which the group does business.
- Lead ongoing external tax audits of applicable taxes in all relevant jurisdictions.
- Maintain and enhance the indirect tax compliance and reporting processes within the financial reporting system; troubleshoot tax-related problems within ERP and trade management systems and identify solutions for internal business partners.
- Identify and implement indirect tax planning opportunities and risk mitigation strategies.
- Provide ad hoc analysis/projects as requested by management.

About You
- Substantial experience of indirect tax in consulting and/or industry including international experience (ideally including EU and US).
- Demonstrated experience in Customs related matters (e.g. import/export processes, duty management and trade compliance), with the ability to provide oversight and challenge where necessary.
- ACA, ACCA, CTA or equivalent qualification.
- Understanding of new taxes and compliance requirements being introduced including digital sales taxes, plastic taxes, digitisation requirements etc.
- Strong technical and analytical skills.
- Team leadership and development experience.
- Well organised, good project management skills and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to manage and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of management as well as with tax and customs and other regulatory bodies.
- Excellent communicator - ability to articulate complex concepts in a concise manner in both written and verbal presentations.
- Someone who loves a challenge and is proactive in delivering value for the organisation.
