As a Designer, you will be responsible for developing and driving a cohesive range, working across multi categories including Dresses/softs and Tailoring, while also assisting the wider design team across the brand where needed. Identifying key trends and influencers will be an important part of this role to ensure we are first to market with key product areas. Agility with the ability to multitask is also important. Your focus will be on developing and delivering a range that pushes the boundaries and meets the need of the Miss Selfridge customer. With an emphasis on being collaborative within the brand, working above and beyond your product areas. Fast paced, dynamic and passionate, the Miss Selfridge design team lead the way to inspire and constantly deliver the latest trends that reflect our brand DNA.

Responsibilities include:

  • Researching, developing, and creating a balanced range, including developing big deals, key seasonal shapes, selecting fabrics, trends and items for the Miss Selfridge customer.
  • Presenting trend research to other teams including buying and commercial leadership, where relevant.
  • Ensuring that product reflects the brand strategy, the range is without gaps or duplication, and that the season is logically and commercially thought through.
  • Collaborating across departments and functions of the business including marketing, to ensure design vision is communicated clearly.
  • Identifying and executing new product opportunities as they emerge in the market.
  • Anticipating the needs of the 20-something customer, using sales data, customer profile analytics and trend research to deliver commercial product ranges.
  • Working closely with in-house buying teams, to create fresh product each season and shape the direction for the department, ensuring it is aligned to the brand and divisional strategy.
  • Working with the technical team on fits on a weekly basis, identifying and helping create new silhouette blocks for the department and produce a commercial range.
  • Integrating yourself into a focused brand way of working, always thinking head-to-toe.
  • Building relationships with suppliers and advising factories on direction, construction, key details, materials, and trims.
  • Driving the fabric direction for the season.
  • Managing, developing, and motivating more junior team members, providing them with clear direction and regular feedback.
  • Adhering to the critical path to achieve deadlines, ensuring product is developed for the relevant and optimum selling period.
  • Encouraging collaborative ways of working and motivating the team through recognition and regular feedback.

Qualifications:

  • 3-4 years significant experience in multi-product design within an aspirational brand or high street retailer.
  • Experience working cross-functionally to deliver initiatives that have positive commercial impact.
  • Proven ability to drive the success of a department or brand through strategic and commercial thinking.
  • A commercial handwriting and strong understanding of the Miss Selfridge brand and customer.
  • An amazing attitude and passion that reflects the Miss Selfridge DNA, alongside demonstrating an inclusive leadership style, role modelling positive behaviours.
  • Passionate about vintage and strong sense of style.
  • Someone who is forthcoming and confident in presenting exciting new ideas back to the wider team and senior management.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Adobe, Indesign, CAD and ideally hand sketch.
  • PLM knowledge beneficial.
  • Key eye for print & colour.
  • A fashion-forward perspective who is immersed in everything to do with the Gen Z customer.
  • Strong time management skills and strong organisational admin skills.
  • A strong team player with the confidence to identify problems and make improvement suggestions, seeking practical ways to overcome barriers and remaining calm under pressure.
  • Willingness to travel in the UK as required, for supplier meetings and inspiration/development trips.
