As an Assistant Designer for Jersey & Knit at Topshop, you will support the Snr Designers and wider design team in creating fashion-forward, innovative product that reflects Topshop’s trend-leading aesthetic. You will contribute to the development of standout pieces across Jersey and Knit categories, combining strong trend awareness with technical understanding of fabrics, yarns, and construction.
This role sits in a fast-paced, highly creative design team where originality is essential. You’ll assist in research, sketching, tech packs, fabric sourcing and supplier communication, ensuring the Topshop customer always has the newest shapes, premium basics and statement pieces.
Creativity and innovation are at the heart of product development at Topshop. Your role will help ensure our Jersey & Knit product drives newness, excitement and commercial success.
You’ll be:
- Researching emerging fashion, cultural and lifestyle trends across multiple platforms and converting insights into commercial design ideas for Jersey & Knitwear.
- Supporting the Designer with sketching, technical packs, CADs and mood boards.
- Creating and developing seasonal key pieces, core ranges and premium jersey/knit styles that elevate the brand.
- Contributing to fabric and yarn sourcing, focusing on newness, innovation, quality and sustainability.
- Organising samples, trims and presentations to support the design process and key meetings.
- Assisting in fit sessions with the Technical team, helping refine silhouette, proportion and drape for optimum fit and aesthetic.
- Working with Far East and European suppliers to develop prototypes, communicate design intent and track sample progress.
- Analysing sales data and reacting to best-sellers and missed opportunities.
- Collaborating closely with Buying, Merchandising and Technical teams to bring cohesive product stories to life each season.
- Presenting trend research to the team and contributing to range direction discussions.
- Maintaining awareness of brand strategy, customer profile and sustainability ethos (Fashion with Integrity).
Qualifications
We’d love to meet someone who has:
- Experience as an Assistant Designer (or Design Intern with strong portfolio) ideally in Jersey, Knit or Womenswear multi-product.
- Confidence working with fabrics including jersey, rib structures, and knowledge of knit gauges and yarn qualities.
- Understanding of garment construction in order to complete tech packs for sample development.
- Experience with creating detailed sketches and tech packs.
- Strong Adobe Suite skills (Illustrator, Photoshop); CAD proficiency is essential.
- Passion for trend forecasting with the ability to translate inspiration into new product.
- A sharp eye for detail and the ability to juggle deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with the internal team and external suppliers.
- Confidence in presenting ideas and influencing decisions.
- A proactive mindset, willing to contribute, learn and grow within a collaborative design team.
- Interest in sustainable materials and processes.
