The technical team at Topshop is all about achieving the right product quality that looks great, fits well, and is fantastic value for money. They work closely with the Buying and Merchandising teams and are a key support to Design and Ethical. They constantly strive to ensure all our products reach customers looking the best they can. A desire to improve quality and fit, and the ability to work within a diverse team, build relationships at business and supplier levels, and think on your feet in a fast‑paced environment are essential.
What you’ll be doing:
- Strong multi‑product experience with premium attention to detail on product construction across Jersey, True knitwear, Denim, Softs, Tailoring, Outerwear.
- Support Lead Technologist in driving Business Technical strategy and contributing towards business targets and objectives while managing multi‑product departments.
- Drive and support technical team to deliver and execute departmental customer returns strategy to reduce returns rates and support cost savings.
- Drive improved management of fitting process within department and across suppliers, supporting speed, reduction in samples and cost savings.
- Build/develop new processes and pioneer industry‑leading technologies to support continuous improvement in quality, speed to market and product innovation.
- Drive and implement internal WOW with Design, Buying and Suppliers to ensure quality and premium finish is built into product at early development stage.
- Strong Offshore Technical audit and manufacturing knowledge.
- Drive and execute supplier quality performance strategy, ensuring optimised sealing hit rate and block management leading to improved customer quality perception and reduced returns.
- Drive and support shift from Quality Control to Quality Assurance for all production stages, offering technical guidelines, product specification knowledge and proactive processes within supplier base.
- Drive technical capabilities within supplier base to deliver quality, placing the right product in the right factory with right cost and lead time.
- Support and drive review and update of the technical manual to deliver leading quality, make‑up and construction standard guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Significant experience in a Senior Garment Technologist role with extensive knowledge of multi‑product and experience leading a team.
- Specialised in True knitwear, Denim, Jersey, Softs, Tailoring, Outerwear.
- Passionate about the role and driving high standards of quality and fit within departments.
- Expert knowledge of pattern cutting and grading.
- Significant experience working within a high‑street retailer and/or supplier/manufacturer.
- Adapt to and drive change and take initiative.
- Strong communication and networking skills across all levels and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build cross‑functional relationships across the business and with suppliers.
- Reliable, flexible, and good at leading a fast‑paced team.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office.
- Strong leadership, organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Experience in leading and developing junior team members, harnessing talent within the team and supporting their individual development needs.
