ASOS CREATIVE STUDIO Editorial Manager Managers are key leadership figures in the smooth, professional and successful running of ASOS Creative Studio. You have an eye for all things creative, a practical ability for implementation and an operational mindset to deliver departmental and business goals. You are commercially and operationally aware of the balance between quality, delivery, and deadlines, and you thrive in a fast‑paced, evolving environment. As one of our Management Team, you will be working closely with the Senior Editorial Manager and multilevel stakeholders across the business. You will help lead, mentor and inspire your downline to deliver the best assets in the industry. You will help drive departmental efficiency, while thinking commercially and innovatively. You will have the ability to successfully manage a team whilst focusing on operational leadership, delivery execution, and hands‑on editorial contribution.

Key Responsibilities Overview

  • Operational owner of Editorial delivery and resourcing, with hands‑on senior‑level writing and subbing responsibility, operating under the strategic direction and final editorial authority of the Senior Editorial Manager.
  • Team Management: Own day‑to‑day team resourcing and project tracking. Possess the skill, knowledge and ability to manage your reports, with input from the Senior Editorial Manager. Support the Senior Manager in building a robust structure that supports the team delivery and succession plan.
  • Evolution & Innovation: Support the Senior Editorial Manager in driving process reviews, always seeking improvements to ensure the maximising of sales and customer engagement. Keep up to date with relevant industry innovations, being forward‑thinking in the testing and adopting of these.
  • Inspiration and Mentorship: Be recognised as an aspirational, innovative figure within your team and the wider department with a strong problem‑solving mindset and reputation.
  • Delivery at scale: Operational ownership of editorial delivery with strategic oversight from the Senior Editorial Manager across all BAU and projects to ensure successful delivery end‑to‑end across all operational briefs and achieve well‑executed deliverables. Ensure every task is resourced appropriately, within budget and KPI/SLA, and that each team member is being used efficiently and appropriately.
  • Future facing: Work closely under the leadership of the Senior Editorial Manager to support the scoping and implementation of the evolution of Editorial, contributing to initiatives that maximise the efficiency of article output and the talent and potential of the team, and supporting the adoption and use of relevant AI technology.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively across the department and wider business, while forming strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Performance and Efficiency: Ensure team performance KPIs/SLAs are met and identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency and speed to market.
  • Quality Assurance: Possess a very high standard of writing, editing/subbing with ownership of first‑line quality control across the team output. Ensure the Editorial Team’s output is consistently aligned to the expectations of the Senior Editorial Manager and all guideline documents.

What you’ll be doing…

  • Reporting directly into the Senior Editorial Manager, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day delivery of written content across .COM, CRM, social media (paid and organic) and ASOS brand and partner campaigns (including any requested supporting copy).
  • Expected to write and edit regularly at a senior leadership level, quickly, accurately, with excellent subbing skills with minimal direction required.
  • Translate and deliver multiple creative briefs to team for campaigns, projects, trends and brands to deliver exciting, fashion‑forward moments for our customers.
  • Learning and applying the ASOS tone of voice to all comms, ensuring all project stakeholders uphold this across all touchpoints.
  • Ability to adapt editorial direction to best serve both menswear and womenswear customers, Geo Team territories, and for specific venture and third‑party brand requests.
  • Actioning business ad hoc editorial requests e.g. legal, tech, internal/corporate comms, crisis comms, loyalty, sustainability, naming of content franchises, trends, tech features etc.
  • Responsibility for spelling and grammar QC, brand tone of voice alignment, flagging any known legal issues/reputational risks to relevant business stakeholders across editorial output and ensuring all relevant content is signed off by Editorial management.
  • Daily management of Style Feed article delivery. Oversee the calendar and briefing process. Maintain full visibility of requirements and liaise with PMs to ensure the team is being fully utilised to deliver the best possible content.
  • Support Senior Editorial Manager in mentoring the Editorial Team in content concepting and ideating, ensuring brand and creative strategy alignment.
  • Model your writing, editing and critical‑thinking skills. Oversee Editors and Writers throughout the creative process with a clear brief, advising on editorial angle and visuals, reviewing their work (editing where required), and giving constructive feedback.
  • Proactively communicate individual and whole‑team feedback, and work with Senior Editorial Manager to rectify any knowledge or skills gaps among your reports.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the daily delivery across the editorial workflows, ensuring you are confident with the applicable content management tools, multi‑channel content publishing tools, and any team/workflow software and kit.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Localisation team where relevant, to ensure the seamless translation and transcreation of editorial outputs.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of automated workflow solutions.
  • Be a constructive conduit for feedback. Always taking and giving feedback positively, ensuring you are solution focused and can champion change.
  • You are a highly organised individual, who is able to multitask and prioritise as you go, managing delivery risks before escalation and remaining proactive and positive when working and taking on new tasks even if information is still in the development stages.
  • Collaborate with the wider Management Team to ensure the overall success of the department and wider business.
  • Conduct regular 121s with your direct reports. Review team and personal objectives, ensuring they are supported, and their skill set is developed. Be accountable that the same is consistently applied through your downline.
  • Actively encourage team growth and development through objectives and training.
  • Manage the team to follow established processes delivering agreed creative and quality standards in line with departmental and business expectations.
  • Work with the Senior Editorial Manager to hire and onboard new full timers, ensuring they meet the technical and behavioural requirements. Simultaneously maintain a high‑quality freelance pool to augment the team when volume requires.
  • Lead by example, encouraging the team to showcase the ASOS behaviours and values, following all company and departmental strategies with the highest levels of engagement.
  • Demonstrate excellent brand awareness by identifying areas for review, researching ideas and assessing competition to ensure we are market leaders.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing your leadership style and communication in line with the ASOS Behaviours policy ensuring you are confident communicating and presenting to senior stakeholders.
  • Input into team, departmental and relevant external meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Deliver projects to support innovation, the department/business strategies and any other ad hoc tasks and projects defined by the Senior Editorial Manager, Post Production & Editorial Lead or Senior leadership Team.
  • Deputise for the Senior Editorial Manager when required.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a senior Fashion Editorial, Fashion Journalism, Fashion Communications, or similar role.
  • Passionate about fashion and editorial content whilst keeping up to date with current affairs, social trends and topics that will interest our customer base.
  • Experience managing direct reports (writers, editors or content specialists).
  • Subbing experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement a brand’s editorial tone of voice and editorial standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to operationally manage large‑scale multi‑territory editorial outputs across multiple channels.
  • Experience contributing to and refining editorial workflows within a fast‑paced environment.
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms, multi‑channel publishing tools, workflow systems and analytic/engagement reporting tools.
  • Strong ability to work proactively whilst also fostering cross‑functional relationships and collaboration.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent ability to spot errors and to think critically about context and nuance for different audiences.
  • Confident communicating with and presenting to senior stakeholders.
  • Experience or interest in AI‑assisted content creation, workflow automation, and emerging editorial technologies/platforms.
