The role of a Supplier Quality Engineer is to ensure that externally supplied materials and components meet defined quality requirements by working closely with suppliers and internal teams. The role focuses on supplier onboarding, product validation, non-conformance management and continuous improvement to support right first-time delivery, protect production and drive supplier performance across the supply chain.
You will be:
- Leading and supporting new supplier onboarding using APQP and Supplier Part Qualification / PPAP‑based processes.
- Approving inspection plans, critical features, and source release activities to enable right‑first‑time delivery.
- Reviewing, managing, and approving First Article Inspection (FAI) reports.
- Coordinating with engineering and procurement teams to ensure supplier compliance with contractual requirements.
- Acting as a quality gate between suppliers and internal manufacturing teams.
- Measuring, analysing, and reporting supplier performance.
- Maintaining accurate data using ERP systems, Excel, and quality databases.
- Escalating quality risks appropriately to protect production and customer delivery.
- Identifying key and global suppliers for targeted development activity.
- Collaborating with supplier representatives on quality problems, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and contributing to supplier quality improvement programs.
- Implementing quality prevention processes to reduce recurring defects and cost of poor quality.
- Aligning supplier improvement priorities with business and operational needs.
- Ensuring timely communication of supplier risks and performance trends.
- Maintaining accurate quality metrics, dashboards, and reports.
- Using supplier data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
About You:
We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team!
You Will / Have:
- A qualification in either an engineering discipline (minimum HNC) or via IQA / CQI in a quality related subject.
- A background in quality assurance or supplier quality in a capital equipment or manufacturing environment.
- Be able to demonstrate a good understanding of quality requirements corrective & preventative action.
- An ability to successfully meet deadlines and display self-discipline needed to achieve these project schedules.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
- Be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel key) together with experience of databases and use of data to define improvements based on Data.
- Be able to work as an individual with minimal supervision and to function well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Good technical engineering knowledge and ability to read engineering drawings.
- Self-starter with a desire for problem solving and process improvement.
- First Article Inspection knowledge/experience.
- Auditing experience preferable.
