The Role:
As the range of projects that we work on grow, so does our team! We're currently looking to hire a Procurement Engineer at our coastal office in Weymouth. In this role, the Procurement Engineer (PE) represents the Source Department from within the R&D environment.
The PE will interface with Engineering, Supplier Quality, Commodity Managers and our vendors to utilise the specialist resources inside and outside of our business to optimise costs in our designs and provide sustainable sourcing solutions.
You Will:
- Work with project teams providing knowledge of material cost data and suitable suppliers from idea creation through to volume production to ensure delivery of a cost optimised product.
- Ensure that manufacturing costs are understood and accurate.
- Provide the input for Business Case preparation and presentation.
- Measure and report total manufacturing costs (and maturity level) throughout the Product Lifecycle Management process.
- Be responsible for the purchase and delivery of materials to support project timelines at Functional Sample (FuSa), Prototype and Pre-Series phases.
- Support Series phase with long-lead time materials.
- Develop a quality plan with Supplier Quality to manage quality in Prototype and Pre-Series build stages.
- Steer the sourcing of projects through Prototype and Pre-Series stages according to process by developing BoMs and providing required documents (drawings, data sheets, STEP Data) for selected/suitable suppliers.
- Ensure the involvement of Engineers, Supplier Quality and Commodity Managers to achieve understanding and commitment from Suppliers.
- Ability to cost designs at the concept stage.
- Be involved in procurement management including vendor selection & strategy, enquiries, negotiations, price calculation and vendor nominations up to pre-series stage.
- Work with Engineers and Commodity Managers to manage and mitigate risk in the supply chain so that decisions and dependencies are considered.
About You:
We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team! A person who is comfortable working both individually and as part of a team.
You Will Have:
- The ability to operate in a dynamic and agile working environment and contribute to good project management.
- A qualification in a business/commercial discipline and/or a qualification in an engineering discipline or equivalent work experience.
- Experience in managing relationships with Suppliers in an engineering business, ideally NPI environment.
- Depth of technical knowledge and commercial experience as enablers for costing and sourcing.
- Experience demonstrating capability to internal and external parties.
- Experience in working to cost targets and with a track record of achievement.
- Leadership qualities to influence decisions (internal) and organize and empower suppliers.
- An understanding of value vs costs in product design across multiple material categories.
- An ability to interpret engineering specifications, understand design intent.
- An ability to analyse and use data at item & BoM level within an ERP system (ideally SAP).
- An ability to analyse and use data at item & BoM level within a PLM system (ideally Teamcenter).
