Hours of Work: 37 Hours

Permanent contracts available following completion of a 6-month probationary period.

Travel to sites across the UK will be required.

As part of the York Archaeological Trust, York Archaeology delivers commercial archaeological services from offices in York, Sheffield, and Nottingham. We operate world-famous heritage attractions in York alongside provision of UK-wide excavation, survey, consultancy, conservation services, research, and an unmatched commitment to dissemination, engagement, and public benefit.

We require Project Supervisors to assist Project Officers in implementing agreed programmes of fieldwork within strict time and budgetary constraints. This could include the supervision of small to medium field teams, independent excavation, survey and recording, or elements of post-excavation analysis and reporting.

Applicants will be expected to work locally within the region and further afield; please note that a considerable proportion of our fieldwork programme can require teams to stay away from home during the week. Accommodation, transport and subsistence will be provided.

Requirements:

  • A degree in archaeology or a related discipline and an appropriate level of demonstrable experience (3+ years).
  • Experience supervising plant, and overseeing small-to-medium-sized teams across a varied portfolio of site types.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to drive teams, YA crew vehicles and welfare vans where required, following successful completion of our driver's training course.
  • CIfA membership would be advantageous, but not essential.
  • A First Aid at Work certificate would be advantageous, but not essential.
  • Experience in technical report writing at a commercial level (i.e. production of WSI’s and grey literature) or a willingness to learn the same.
