ASL Technical is working with a successful Electronics Manufacturing company based in Worthing, West Sussex. We are recruiting for an experienced Surface Mount Operator for the SMT department. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience of start-up, loading of programmes, meeting production targets, and ensuring SOP shutdowns, with strong PC/Technology literacy. Experience working from engineering drawings, bills of materials, and build instructions would be highly beneficial. This role requires excellent attention to detail, good manual dexterity, and a strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement. Skills and competency tests may form part of the selection process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Kitting
- Feeder Setup/Splicing
- Machine Setup
- Stencil Setup
- Oven Setup
- AOI Setup
- Manual/Automated Printing
Metrics:
- Load feeders according to setup sheet using PO number provided
- Ensure correct GR numbers are being used
- Good understanding of FIFO
- Understand feeder size and pitches
- Kitting SMT parts from BOM, restock parts by bin locations
- Verify components on feeder with barcode scanning
- Make minor machine adjustments such as placements of parts, measurement of components, change or correct package size and clear machine jams
- Start machine and monitor operation
- Oven profiling using Reflow Profiler
- Vapour Phase oven profiling using on board Profiler
- Programming Stencil Printers and SMT Machines
- Maintain a clean and organised work area to facilitate manufacturing functions
Qualifications & Experience:
- Knowledge of safety and operation of x-pulse machines, iemme reflow ovens, Dek or SP210 printers, Nutek conveyers and IBL BLC-509 Vapour Phase oven are desirable.
- Component identification knowledge is essential.
- Understanding of solder paste print process is essential.
- IPC610 Certification (Valid or Expired)
Behavioural Competencies/Physical requirements:
- Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time on repetitive tasks
- Standing up/moving around machine all day
- Strong attention to detail
- Organised and methodical
- Able to work as part of a team and on own initiative
- Regular manual handling/lifting
- Knowledge of LEAN or 6S practices is desirable
