Our client is a leading designer and maker of premium quality sofas and upholstery products. A vacancy has arisen for an Industrial Sewing Machinist to join their hardworking team in St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrable experience within industrial sewing, as well as the ability to quality check products. You will also be able to read drawings and follow instruction. As an Industrial Sewing Machinist you will be contributing and maintaining the smooth flow of production in line with the planned company schedule to ensure that the correct product is delivered on time, whilst maintaining the Company’s high standard of quality.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualities:
- Demonstrable experience within industrial sewing or furniture upholstery
- Quality checking experience
- Ability to read drawings and follow instruction
- Be a strong team player
Your duties as an Industrial Sewing Machinist would be:
- Maintaining the use of personal protective equipment at all times
- Ensuring the correct use of equipment
- Being aware of quality and use materials effectively to avoid waste and unnecessary cost
- Checking all work for defects i.e. flaws, items cut and sewn incorrectly as well as your own workmanship to ensure that the final product is a quality upholstered piece of furniture
- Helping fellow team members with lifting
- Reporting all problems to the supervisor or trainer
- Asking for help if unsure with anything new or old
- Being responsible for your own shadow board and ensuring that all tools are correct at the end of the shift
- Assisting with keeping the working area neat, clean and tidy, and emptying bins when required
- Ensuring that all gangways and fire exits are kept clear
- Participating in the CANDO activity for the department/surrounding area
- Complying at all times with the letter and spirit of the Company’s Health, Safety and Environmental Policy, Equality & Diversity Policy and Code of Conduct and Behaviour
- Familiarising and keeping abreast of all Company employee documentation and rules relating to employment with the Company
- Adhering to all company rules and regulations
- Carrying out such other duties as are reasonably requested by the line manager from time to time
- Playing an integral part in meeting the department’s targets
- Reporting areas of concern regarding raw materials, below standard products, low stock levels, tool malfunctions, etc. to the Line Manager timeously
Salary: £12.21 per hour
Hours: Monday – Thursday, 8am – 5pm and Friday 7am – 12pm 39 Hours per week
