Job Title: Student Services Safeguarding Officer

Location: Stewart Park

Contract Type: Part-Time - 29.6hrs, Permanent

Salary: SP18 - £25,462 - SP21 - £27,580 per annum, pro rata

About the role:

We are looking for aStudent Services & Safeguarding Officerto join our team at Stewart Park. This is a rewarding role providing vital support, advice and guidance to students, while taking a lead role in safeguarding and student wellbeing.

You will be the first point of contact for students and staff, providing a professional, supportive and confidential service. You will work closely with colleagues, parents, social care, police, mental health services and other external agencies to ensure students receive the right support at the right time.

About you

We are looking for someone who isapproachable, organised and compassionate, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will have experience of supporting young people, safeguarding or student services and be confident working with a range of internal and external partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead safeguardingat Stewart Park, providing advice and support to students, staff and external agencies.
  • Be the first point of contactfor students seeking support, information, advice and guidance.
  • Support student wellbeing, including providing confidential one-to-one support and signposting to appropriate services.
  • Manage safeguarding referrals and records, ensuring accurate, timely and confidential documentation.
  • Lead the Positive Behaviour process, including organising meetings, investigations, minute-taking and communication with relevant parties.
  • Work with external agenciessuch as social care, police and mental health services to support vulnerable students.
  • Monitor attendance and engagement, identifying students at risk and working with course teams to improve retention.
  • Support student services, including bursaries, free school meals, sexual health information and other practical support.
  • Work closely with curriculum and support teamsto ensure students, including those with additional needs, are appropriately supported and safeguarded.
  • Build positive relationshipswith students, parents, staff, external agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Promote a positive student experience, including supporting GROW, open days, careers fairs and college events.
  • Maintain professional standards, keeping safeguarding training and professional development up to date and promoting equality, diversity, health and safety.

Start Date: The College operates 2 starter/induction days per month to welcome and onboard new members. These are usually the first Monday and third Wednesday of each month (unless there is a bank holiday).

Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based across the North of England with centres in York, Middlesbrough, Saltaire, Wakefield and Gateshead.
