About the role: We're looking for an enthusiastic Laboratory Technician to join our friendly Science team at our York campus. If you enjoy practical, hands-on work and want to help bring science learning to life for our students, this role offers variety, collaboration and the chance to make a real impact in our teaching environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering consistent, high-quality technical support within the Science Department, ensuring laboratories, equipment and materials are prepared, maintained and operated safely and efficiently. The role requires strong organisational skills, accurate record keeping, adherence to established procedures, and effective communication with staff, students and external suppliers.
The postholder will contribute to the smooth running of practical sessions, support curriculum delivery, uphold all relevant health and safety standards, and work both independently and collaboratively within a small specialist team.
The successful candidate will:
- Work alongside the Science Centre Manager to provide and deliver a strong support service to enhance the curriculum across various subject areas.
- Ensure that equipment is available when needed for teaching and kept well maintained and in good order.
- Provide proactive advice with regards to COSHH, Risk Assessments and Health and Safety.
- Gain a working understanding of equipment and techniques and develop knowledge of industry relevant scientific techniques.
- Attend departmental meetings and open events, as required.
Candidates should hold GCSEs or equivalent in English, Maths and Science, and a higher level of science qualification would be advantageous as would experience in biological or animal sciences. Good attitude and willingness to learn are the most important attributes we require.

Start Date: The College operates 2 starter/induction days per month to welcome and onboard new members. These are usually the first Monday and third Wednesday of each month (unless there is a bank holiday).
