Job description
Job Title: Equine Lecturer
Location: York
Contract: Part time - 14.8 hours, Permanent
Salary: SP26 £31,758 - SP29 £34,699 per annum, pro rata
About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for an Equine Lecturer to join our Equine Department at our York campus on a part time basis.
We are seeking an experienced Equine professional who is passionate about developing the next generation of equine industry practitioners. This role focuses primarily on delivering high-quality practical training to learners aged 16 to 19, helping them develop the vocational skills, confidence and professionalism required for successful progression into employment, apprenticeships or further study within the equine sector.
You will lead and supervise practical sessions across a range of equine activities, with a particular focus on competition grooming, horse care, horse handling, turnout, yard duties, equine health and welfare, and industry standard stable management practices. Working within our commercial equine environment, you will support learners in developing safe working habits, attention to detail, presentation standards and the practical competencies expected by employers across the equestrian industry.
The role involves minimal classroom-based theory delivery, with the majority of teaching taking place in practical settings. You will act as a role model for professional standards, ensuring learners gain hands-on experience and develop the behaviours, knowledge and skills required for industry success. You may also act as a personal tutor for a designated group of learners, monitoring progress, attendance and wellbeing throughout their programme.
Applicants should hold a minimum of a BHS stage 3 or above in a relevant equine discipline and possess current industry experience. A teaching qualification is desirable; however, applications are welcome from experienced industry professionals who are willing to work towards a recognised teaching qualification. Experience within competition grooming, equine yard management, coaching, riding school operations or other relevant equestrian disciplines would be advantageous.
If you have the practical expertise, industry knowledge and enthusiasm to inspire young people and prepare them for successful careers within the equine industry, we would love to hear from you.
