Job Title: Course Manager Animal Care

Contract Type: Part time - 18.5 hours, Permanent
Salary: £31,758 - £34,699 per annum pro rata
About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Course Manager in Animal Care to join our team at our Saltaire campus. This is a part-time position, working 18.5 hours per week.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable individual who will be responsible for the delivery of Level 2 Animal Care qualifications and the course management of a designated student group within the department. Relevant sector experience and expertise in Animal Care, Animal Management, Veterinary Care, Zoo Management, or a related discipline, together with an understanding of further education, would be highly advantageous.
The successful candidate will deliver a range of theoretical and practical units across our Level 1 and 2 Adult Skills provision, supporting learners to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for progression within the animal care industry. The role also offers access to high-quality teacher training and ongoing professional development opportunities.
Candidates should be educated to degree level or above in a relevant subject area and a teaching qualification would be desirable. This role offers an excellent opportunity for the right individual to play a central role in our Animal Care provision, working within a fantastic campus environment and contributing to our Vision 2030 strategy, helping to inspire the next generation of animal care professionals and support the future of the sector.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and coordinate Animal Care programmes across Wakefield and Saltaire.
• Deliver high-quality teaching and learning.
• Support learner recruitment, retention, achievement and progression.
• Monitor attendance, progress and wellbeing.
• Manage course administration, assessment planning and quality processes.
• Develop learning resources and schemes of work.
• Liaise with employers and industry partners.
• Support curriculum development and quality improvement activities.
• Ensure effective quality assurance and continuous improvement.
Essential Requirements:
• Relevant qualification in Animal Care, Animal Management or related subject.
• Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one.
• Experience of teaching or training.
• Strong understanding of animal welfare and industry practice.
• Excellent communication, organisation and digital skills.

Start Date: The College operates 2 starter/induction days per month to welcome and onboard new members. These are usually the first Monday and third Wednesday of each month (unless there is a bank holiday).
