If you want to work on infrastructure that matters β€” software that keeps tens of thousands of people connected every day β€” this is the role for you.

About the Role

ASK4 provides managed internet connectivity and smart building technology to multi-tenant properties across Europe.

Our network platform underpins homes and workspaces for residents in student accommodation, build-to-rent, and multi-dwelling properties at scale.

As a Senior Software Engineer in our Network Systems team, you'll design, build, and operate the software that keeps this platform running.

From automation tooling and AI-powered network intelligence to provisioning and monitoring systems, your work will directly influence how reliably our services perform at scale.

You'll bring independent technical judgement, contribute to architectural decisions, and play an active role in raising the capability of the team around you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain back-end systems supporting ASK4's network infrastructure β€” including provisioning, monitoring, and automation tooling
  • Take end-to-end technical ownership of significant workstreams, from requirements and design through to production deployment
  • Contribute to and drive architectural decisions, including technology selection, service decomposition, and integration patterns
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, Helm charts, and Kubernetes configurations for production and non-production environments
  • Integrate with network management systems, message brokers, and third-party APIs
  • Instrument and monitor applications using observability tooling, taking responsibility for service health in production
  • Provide technical mentorship to mid-level engineers and act as an escalation point for complex problems
  • Contribute to development standards, code review practices, and shared tooling across the engineering teams

About You

  • Strong object-oriented software development fundamentals β€” comfortable with patterns and abstraction at scale
  • Solid, production-grade PHP experience, ideally including Symfony or similar frameworks
  • Practical experience building and maintaining Go or Node. js services
  • Confident with relational databases (we use Postgre SQL)
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production; Helm chart authoring is a strong plus
  • CI/CD pipeline experience (we use Git Lab CI)
  • Experience with message brokers and event-driven systems (NATS, Rabbit MQ, Kafka, or similar)
  • Working knowledge of Linux systems administration and IP networking fundamentals
  • Observability experience β€” metrics, logs, and traces using tools such as Grafana and Prometheus
  • Exposure to Open Wi Fi or similar open-source network controller frameworks
  • Experience with AI agent development or LLM integration
  • ISP or managed connectivity background
  • Automated configuration management (Ansible, Puppet, or similar)

What We Offer

  • 25 days holiday plus public holidays, with long-service increases and flexible buy/sell options
  • Hybrid working β€” split your week between our Sheffield city centre office and home
  • Profit Share Bonus Scheme linked to company performance
  • Westfield Health Care Plan, Employee Assistance Programme, and 24/7 GP access
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, and adoption pay
  • Cycle to Work and Electric Vehicle salary sacrifice schemes
  • 4 hours per month dedicated Personal Development Time
  • Life assurance (1x annual salary) and pension with Aviva
  • Β£500 Recommend a Friend bonus, birthday day off, and a genuinely supportive team culture
