We’re looking for an experienced Network Monitoring Engineer to join ASK4 on a 6-month fixed-term basis, playing a key role in a major dark fibre rollout programme. This is a hands-on role focused on designing, implementing and commissioning monitoring solutions for newly deployed fibre infrastructure and network equipment. You’ll ensure full observability from day one, working with modern tooling including streaming telemetry, AI-driven analytics, and open-source monitoring platforms. You’ll collaborate closely with Core Networks and NOC teams, delivering high-quality monitoring systems at pace within a project-driven environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Monitoring & Observability
  • Design and deploy end-to-end monitoring solutions across new dark fibre infrastructure
  • Build streaming telemetry pipelines for real-time, low-latency network visibility
  • Configure and optimise VictoriaMetrics (ingestion, retention, performance tuning)
  • Implement and manage Nagios-based monitoring for alerting and service health
  • Integrate AI-driven analytics for anomaly detection and predictive fault identification
  • Develop Grafana dashboards (or equivalent) for operational and engineering insights
  • Commission monitoring across fibre nodes, OLTs, and Layer 1–3 network equipment
  • Align monitoring with evolving network topology alongside Core Network teams
  • Define baseline metrics and SLA-driven alert thresholds
  • Continuously improve monitoring architecture, tooling, and processes
  • Documentation & Handover
    • Produce clear, maintainable technical documentation
    • Create runbooks, escalation paths, and operational guides
    • Support knowledge transfer to NOC and engineering teams
    • Provide progress updates and contribute to project review

    What We’re Looking For

    • Proven experience in a senior network monitoring / network engineering role (ISP, managed network, or large-scale infrastructure)
    • Strong hands-on experience with VictoriaMetrics in production
    • Solid knowledge of Nagios (configuration, plugins, alerting workflows)
    • Experience with streaming telemetry (gNMI/gRPC, Telegraf, gNMIc)
    • Exposure to AI/ML-driven monitoring or anomaly detection
    • Strong networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, optical networks
    • Ability to work independently and deliver to project milestones
    • Excellent documentation and communication skills
    • Detail-oriented with a focus on reliability and quality engineering
    • Proactive and self-driven, able to identify and solve problems independently
    • Experience with FTTH or dark fibre deployments
    • Familiarity with Grafana, Prometheus, or similar observability tools
    • Knowledge of SNMP, NetFlow/IPFIX, syslog pipelines
