At Ask Silver, you will be helping to tackle one of the most meaningful, but also hardest, problems in society; scams. Every year, millions of people are socially engineered and fall victim to fraud. We are building human-centred technology to keep people safe from scammers. Our tools are free for consumers, and paid for by organisations like banks, businesses and governments that face a huge cost in scams. We launched our AI-powered Scam Checker just over a year ago and have already been featured in the BBC, ITV, Daily Mail and hundreds of other media outlets. We already signed Metro Bank PLC as our first customer and are onboarding some of the biggest banks in the UK.
As our fourth engineer, you will have a huge amount of autonomy to shape what we build and how we build it. From launching new features to experimenting with smarter ways to catch scams, you will be solving tricky problems that matter and helping people avoid the stress and heartbreak that scams can cause.
What you will do:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for our core AI products
- Build and maintain our front end widgets, dashboards and website
- Build robust data processing pipelines and integrations with financial platforms
- Adhere to best practices in security, data handling, and privacy
- Write clean, well-tested code (primarily in Python or TypeScript)
What we are looking for:
- 2+ years of experience as a software developer
- Strong skills in Python or TypeScript
- Experience building and maintaining fault-tolerant systems
- Bonus points for startup experience
- Passion projects or personal projects where you have built and shipped something end-to-end
- FinTech or financial services experience
- Familiarity with LLM or ML integration in production environments
- Experience with Django (backend) and React (frontend)
- Experience working on or developing public APIs
What we value:
- You do not just wait to be told what to do, you are invested in building a great product and take full responsibility for delivering value.
- You enjoy complex challenges and you have excellent attention to detail when it matters but you also understand when things need to get shipped quickly and a little more scrappily.
- You work closely with founders and teammates. You are comfortable jumping between product conversations, fast-moving experiments, and careful engineering reviews.
- You spot opportunities to improve the product or platform and take action without needing to be asked.
- You are keen to explore new ideas, technologies, and ways of working. You welcome feedback, challenge assumptions, and grow with the company as it evolves.
- You care deeply about the user experience and want to build tools that genuinely make a difference.
