About our client:
Our client is a Creative Writing, Film and Theatre Graduate of Reading University, currently living in a bungalow near the university. She has a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy that causes her limbs to be stiff and spasm and causes involuntary movements.
About our client as written by her:
Hello, I'm twenty-three, I have cerebral palsy and am a full-time wheelchair user. I'm a Creative Writing, Film and Theatre graduate. I'm staying in Reading as I have found a bungalow near the uni that I feel very comfortable in. It also helps me to be more independent as I have outgrown living with my parents. I'm a very go with the flow kind of person but am organised when I need to be. My ideal PA is someone who feels like a friend who just so happens to help me out. I am very talkative and always up for a laugh. I like to go out shopping (it's actually browsing because I'm a broke student), and I like going to the cinema. I'm very close with all my friends and we like to go out together; on these occasions, you may not be needed but please keep your phone nearby in case I need you. I am also very musical and my favourite artist is Taylor Swift. I'm also a performer and recently did a stand-up comedy routine for the first time in public. If I wake up and am just having a bad day, the best thing to do is provide me with snacks, check if I want to talk and see how the day goes. I've been trying to get myself out of the house and doing things on down days, but sometimes this is too much.
About the job:
You will provide our client's personal care and social support. This is also a flatmate type of role which goes far beyond simply care work. Previous PAs have told us that with the knowledge that they are having a positive, daily impact on someone's life, and the relaxed, inclusive working environment makes this a unique and exciting opportunity. Care experience is not required as full training in our client's particular requirements will be provided. You will be required to work as part of a team of two PAs who will provide our client's 24/7 care and support as follows:
- Personal Care
- Social Support
- Night Time Care
While care experience is useful, it is more important that you have the personal attributes that make for a good match with our client.
About You:
You are unlikely to have experience in every aspect of our client's care; therefore, full training in her particular needs is provided. You will need:
- To be physically fit, calm, patient and caring.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Good organisational skills.
- To be Covid Vaccinated. Preferred - NOT Essential
- Able to follow instructions, but also able to work on your own initiative.
- A responsible attitude.
- To be a Non-Smoker.
- A good sense of humour.
- To be clean and tidy in both your appearance and ways.
If you would like to apply for this position, please describe your interests in your covering letter.
