Part-time Care Assistant to Journalism Uni student

AskJules is recruiting on behalf of our client, who is looking for two enthusiastic, reliable Personal Assistants to support her as she embarks on an exciting new chapter at the University of Sheffield.

Location: Sheffield (during university term time) and Buckinghamshire (during university holidays)

Start Date: 20th September 2026

Hours: Double Ups 6h per day working between 3 to 4 days per week, alongside another PA

Pay: £15.00 per hour

Training: Previous care experience is not essential. Full training will be provided.

About our client: Our client is starting her first year at the University of Sheffield, where she will be studying BA Journalism Studies. She is a full-time powered wheelchair user and has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 2, a genetic condition that causes muscle weakness. As a result, she requires assistance with most physical tasks to enable her to live independently and enjoy university life to the fullest.

As one of our client's Personal Assistants, you will provide practical support with her health and daily living needs, enabling her to live independently and make the most of every aspect of university life. This role offers genuine purpose, variety and job satisfaction. You'll support our client not only with her personal care but also with everything that comes with being a first-year student from attending lectures and studying in the library to shopping, socialising, nights out, travelling and exploring new places.

Duties will include:

• Providing personal care.
• Assisting with dressing, grooming and daily routines.
• Supporting with domestic tasks including cooking, cleaning and shopping.
• Accompanying our client to university lectures, appointments and social events.
• Supporting with travel and accessing public transport and venues.
• Assisting with transfers and repositioning.
• Supporting mobility and access to the environment.
• Assisting with specialist equipment, including a powered wheelchair, ceiling hoist, suprapubic catheter, BiPAP machine and cough assist machine (full training provided).
