Written by our client:

“I suffer from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (diagnosed as type 1) which causes weakness in my muscles and makes many aspects of my daily life quite challenging. My body is very weak and consequently, I need assistance with practically everything I do.”

“My carer will need to organise and prepare my breakfast and I will probably need some help eating and drinking it. I’ll also need to be transported (driven in my WAV – My carer will be expected to drive the van) to and from University or Apprenticeship (yet to be decided!), or other (more fun activities) etc.”

“If I’m honest, I’m not at my best first thing in the morning and typically, I’ll ask for “5 more minutes” of sleep. It is important to ignore this, as I generally brighten up quite quickly once I’m fully awake.”

“Apart from my physical disability, my mind is as sharp as any and I’d prefer to find a carer who is happy to join in with conversation and social activities. Ideally, the perfect carer would become a friend.”

“My disability doesn’t stop me from doing the things I love. I have a season ticket at Manchester United, going out with friends and family. I am a big foodie so love going out for a meal or two”
