We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a young university graduate based in Surrey. Our client is looking for a responsible person to join her existing team and assist her in daily living. This is a fantastic opportunity to help make a positive impact on a young adult's life.

Location: Leatherhead, Guildford

Start Date: ASAP

Work pattern: Between 36 - 48 hours per week / Weekday and weekend shifts, including:

  • Mon - 8am to 9pm
  • Tue - Fri + Sun - 8am to 8pm
  • Saturday - 8am to 6pm

Rate of Pay: £15.00 per hour

Care experience is not essential for this role as full training will be provided.

About our client: Our client has just graduated from the University of Surrey, Guildford, where she has obtained a Degree in Sociology. She has Cerebral Palsy and is a full-time wheelchair user, who is looking for someone to support her with daily living as well as personal care. She needs help to do her physio and exercises on a weekly basis. She is also looking for someone who likes swimming, as potential candidates would need to be comfortable with assisting the client with swimming.

The client describes herself as outdoorsy; she enjoys going out and about and to the cinema. In her free time, she enjoys winding down with crocheting and spending time with family. She also enjoys cooking, so she is looking for someone who shares those interests.

As written by our client: Personality wise I am usually quiet, collected, and mild-mannered. I'm quite introverted, especially with new people; however, I still enjoy connecting with new people and having a good meaningful conversation. As a sociology graduate, especially, I will not put down a chance to have a conversation about our changing society and other topics that are current and new. I would also love to listen to my PA and their life and interests to better understand them, not just the other way round!

I'm quite ambitious with my future and what I want to do and try not to let my disability stop me. I am generally quite an outdoorsy person who likes going to places with lots of nature as well as going to London to see modern cities. I'm into shopping like any stereotypical girl and try not to be too dazzled by new things! I enjoy spending time with people; therefore, I would love a PA that I can bond with and get to know as I spend my day with them. I'll need support in and outside of uni and therefore will want to share my interests with a PA as I go about developing into adulthood.

Since I'll be at home, I would love for my PA to form a relationship with me, as well as my family, such as my parents and siblings, and fully be a part of my everyday life. I may want time alone while at uni and at home, just so I can have time to myself like most people may need! This may be mostly needed while in lectures so I can connect with my peers, as well as when I want to spend time with friends, or just to recuperate.

In terms of entertainment, I spend most of my time watching things. I like period pieces as well as anything with a good deep atmosphere, plot, and music. I love watching things from other cultures. I enjoy the theatre and have been to see Hamilton in the past and will love to have another opportunity to visit with the right care support!

About the Job: You will provide our client's academic support and health and social care. This is a fantastic opportunity to truly make a positive difference to somebody else's life to assist our client to achieve her goals and aspirations. This job offers the prospect of meaning and job satisfaction. A driver is preferred for this role but not essential. This role goes far beyond simply care work and includes all the fun things you'd expect a second-year university student to be doing, like getting out and socialising, whether that be cinema, going out for meals or other general activities! Care experience is NOT required as full training in our client's particular requirements will be provided.

About You: You will need to:

  • Hold a clean automatic driving licence (as you will be driving the client’s automatic vehicle)
  • Be patient, caring & kind towards the client's family
  • Physically fit, not overbearing, organised & respectful towards the client's privacy
  • Have the ability to work on your own initiative
  • Have a good sense of humour
  • Be calm under pressure
  • Have good and clear communication skills
  • Be fluent in English
  • Be clean and tidy in both your appearance and ways
  • Be able to adapt to changing ways of doing the client's care from going inside to outside of her house
  • Be an animal lover
