The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank dedicated to financing infrastructure with sustainability at its core in Asia and beyond. Established in Beijing in 2016, AIIB now has 110 approved members worldwide, with a capital of USD 100 billion and a AAA credit rating. The bank focuses on green, technology-enabled infrastructure that promotes regional connectivity.
The Economics Department leads AIIB's economic thought leadership, analysis, and publication efforts, including macroeconomic monitoring, infrastructure needs assessment, debt sustainability, and project economics. It also supports investment operations. The Head of Research and Development Impact will join the Economics Department, leading a team to conduct rigorous research on infrastructure topics, impact studies, and data quality management, including geospatial data.
Responsibilities:
- Conceptualize and conduct in-depth research on infrastructure, development, and finance issues.
- Perform economic analyses of infrastructure projects and review third-party analyses to support financing decisions.
- Lead 2-3 impact assessment studies annually for AIIB projects.
- Support and review AIIB publications and contribute to the research network.
- Develop analytical capacity within the bank, including geospatial and impact assessment tools, collaborating with stakeholders.
- Manage the Research and Development Impact team, guiding work and supporting junior economists' growth.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by senior management.
Requirements:
- Advanced degree in economics, preferably a Ph.D., with a strong research record in development issues, including quantitative analysis.
- 8-10+ years of relevant professional experience, with knowledge of practices in international financial institutions preferred.
- Proficiency in data analytical tools, including geospatial analysis.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse, multicultural teams.
- Excellent command of English, both oral and written.
- Experience working in international organizations or think tanks on similar functions is advantageous.
