The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is financing infrastructure for tomorrow in Asia and beyond – infrastructure with sustainability at its core. We began operations in Beijing in 2016 and have since grown to 111 approved members worldwide. We are capitalized at USD100 billion and AAA-rated by the major international credit rating agencies. Collaborating with partners, AIIB meets clients' needs by unlocking new capital and investing in infrastructure that is green, technology-enabled, and promotes regional connectivity.
The Financial Institutions and Funds Clients, Global Department (FIF) is responsible for executing transactions with and expanding AIIB’s client relationships among financial institutions and funds in the infrastructure sector globally. FIF works closely with financial institutions, private equity and debt funds, asset aggregation vehicles, and similar clients across the range of AIIB-covered sectors, geographies, and products to deliver the Bank’s Corporate Strategy and targets. In addition, FIF focuses on the ongoing expansion of business, targeting opportunities that are highly aligned with AIIB’s sectoral and product strategies, in particular the Strategy on Mobilizing Private Capital for Infrastructure and the Strategy on Investing in Equity. This includes investments in collateralized loan obligations (CLOs) and other structured products.
The Investment Officer will be responsible for the origination, structuring, and execution of investments within the designated client coverage and/or product remit. This role may also include portfolio and investment monitoring functions for certain projects overseen by FIF during their implementation. If applicable, the Investment Officer is expected to work closely with other relevant AIIB departments, assist management in preparing strategies for building the investment pipeline, and assist in implementing these strategies. The Investment Officer will maintain active dialogue with the market, provide current updates to both internal and external clients, and support activities in pursuit of new business.
Responsibilities:- Working in a geographically focused team or subteam, lead or co-lead the origination, structuring, execution, and monitoring of sovereign and non-sovereign investment projects within the financial institutions (FI) business line as assigned by the Director General and/or the relevant manager.
- Lead or co-lead project due diligence and approval processes, with an emphasis on ensuring that key economic, financial, technical, and legal issues are considered and mitigants incorporated in the financing structure and legal documents.
- Contribute to establishing, developing, and maintaining strong relationships with multilateral, international, regional, and local FIs in the assigned region with the aim of developing the business pipeline and promoting AIIB's investment mandate.
- Develop and grow a diversified base of new FIs in the assigned region, identify prospective new sources of capital mobilization, and expand relationships with existing clients.
- Establish a strong relationship with syndications to help mobilize B-lenders, parallel lenders, and insurance providers.
- Coordinate with other client departments for the management of key relationships or coordination of the investment program, as required.
- At an appropriate level, represent FIF in meetings, and assist in coordination, participation, follow-up, and reporting.
- Participate in the Bank's internal coordination through information exchanges and teamwork with relevant divisions of the Bank.
- Support the team and management in achieving targets and objectives.
- Minimum 5-8 years of relevant work experience in financial institutions finance and/or project and corporate finance, gained in commercial/investment banks, international credit insurance companies, and/or international financial institutions.
- Preferably a master’s degree in business, economics, finance, or science. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree will also be considered, provided additional years of relevant experience (or leadership experience) in lieu of a Master’s degree. Professional qualifications such as CFA, CAIA, or chartered accountancy will be considered an advantage.
- Understanding of international capital markets, especially commercial banks, credit guarantees/insurance, and financial products, including loans, swaps, and CDS. A solid understanding of core infrastructure sector development and FI thematic financing would be a strong asset.
- Experience using available research tools, such as Bloomberg, LSEG/Eikon, Dealogic–Loan Analytics, and market publications.
- Experience in structuring financial solutions across various products using debt and capital market instruments (loans, bonds, AT1, BCT2, or equivalent). Experience with equity will be a plus.
- Proven project leading/management skills, with the ability to identify, engage, and work with different stakeholders across private and public sectors, such as issuers, institutional investors, regulators, banks, and other intermediaries.
- Strong financial, analytical, and credit skills, with an understanding of local currency financing and regulations.
- Good team player with strong interpersonal skills. Able to work in a respectful, team-oriented, and multicultural environment.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of languages used in AIIB members in East Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia would be an advantage.
