Job Overview: The Business Analyst (Data) plays a critical role in defining, documenting, and enhancing the data and reporting within Ashurst Service Central (ASC). The role ensures that business reporting needs are clearly identified, relevant business processes described and maintained, and data quality improvement initiatives are implemented. This position will collaborate closely with Reporting, Data Governance, and Data Engineering teams to drive process efficiencies, implement best practices, and support the firm's strategic priorities in data management. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders to refine reporting workflows, improve data integrity, and ensure that ASC's reporting capabilities align with business needs.

  • Data Quality & Governance: Work with Data Governance to define and apply data quality standards for reporting. Flag and escalate data quality or definition issues to the appropriate teams for resolution. Assist in ensuring data updates and modifications are effectively managed across relevant systems.
  • Business Requirements & Reporting Needs Definition: Work with business units to gather, define, and document reporting needs through a structured intake process. Collaborate with Reporting/Analytics teams to identify new inbound data and reporting requests, ensuring alignment with business objectives. Support the prioritization of reporting requests through established governance frameworks.
  • Data & Business Process Analysis: Map and document business processes related to data maintenance and reporting workflows, ensuring consistency and efficiency. Identify gaps in existing data processes and recommend process optimizations to enhance reporting capabilities. Work with Business Process Improvement teams to implement best practices for data governance and quality resolution.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a bridge between business teams and technical teams (Reporting, Data Governance, and Data Engineering) to ensure clear communication of requirements. Work with Data Engineering to align reporting needs with available data sources and infrastructure. Provide ongoing support and training to ensure business users effectively engage with data and reporting tools.

Essential skills and experience: Proven experience as a Business Analyst, Data Analyst, or similar role, with a focus on data and reporting. Strong understanding of reporting workflows, data governance, and process improvement methodologies. Experience working with data management, business intelligence, or analytics platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, SQL-based reporting). Ability to translate business needs into data and reporting requirements in a clear and structured manner. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels. Bachelor's degree in Business, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field.

Desired skills and experience: Master's degree in Business Analytics, Information Systems, or related field. Knowledge of ETL processes and data engineering concepts. Familiarity with data governance frameworks and compliance regulations. Experience working in a global professional services firm with exposure to reporting across multiple business functions.
