  • Purpose

This role sits within a growing healthcare group and is to support the Financial Controller and Finance Director in the accurate recording, control and reporting of financial results across the business.

The role will contribute to month-end close, balance sheet control, cash flow forecasting, payroll accounting, audit preparation, statutory reporting and management information.

The postholder will help ensure financial reporting is accurate, timely and compliant with applicable accounting standards and internal policies, while supporting continuous improvement in finance processes and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial reporting and month-end
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and support the preparation of year-end financial statements.
  • Own the preparation and maintenance of balance sheet reconciliations, including investigation of variances on key control accounts.
  • Maintain the nominal ledger and support accurate month-end close.
  • Audit, controls and compliance
  • Support the annual statutory audit process, including preparation of key audit deliverables and responses to auditor queries.
  • Maintain and improve financial controls, processes and procedures.
  • Support compliance with applicable accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Cash flow, working capital and ledgers
  • Prepare and maintain the rolling 13-week cash flow forecast, supporting the Financial Controller with cash flow analysis and reporting.
  • Support the Financial Controller with the maintenance and review of the aged debtors and creditors ledgers, along with the maintenance and review of the nominal ledger.
  • Payroll and staff costs
  • Support the Financial Controller with the monthly payroll process, ensuring payroll data is accurate, complete and processed to deadlines.
  • Prepare payroll journals and payroll related reporting and reconciliations to support the balance sheet and forecasting.
  • Maintain rolling staff cost forecast file monthly, liaising with people team and budget holders
  • Budgeting, forecasting and business partnering
  • Support the preparation of monthly management information and associated reporting, variance analysis and commentary against budgets and forecasts.
  • Support the annual budget and recurring forecasting processes, helping to provide clear analysis and insight to key stakeholders and budget holders.
  • Contribute to improvements in internal reporting processes to drive efficiencies in key stakeholder reporting.
  • Support the Financial Controller, Finance Director and CFO in any other tasks as required in the normal course of business and through integration of new entities.
  • Provide cover within the team as and when required during periods of absence.
  • Role Accountability
  • Own: balance sheet reconciliations, payroll journals, specified month-end tasks, staff cost forecast file.
  • Support: statutory accounts, audit, management accounts, budgeting, cash flow reporting.
  • Contribute to: process improvement, reporting automation, integration of new entities.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Part Qualified accountant studying towards ACCA, CIMA or ACA, with a clear commitment to completing the qualification.
  • Minimum 2 years financial accounting experience in a finance role with month-end close and reporting ownership, balance sheet reconciliations and management reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and accounting principles.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas and data analysis.
  • Proactive and comfortable working to month-end deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to proactively find solutions and support effective outcomes. Ability to propose solutions not just identify issues.
  • Able to challenge information constructively and follow issues through to resolution.
  • Comfortable working with confidential payroll and financial information.
  • Able to communicate clearly with finance and non-finance stakeholders.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience with Sage, Xero or similar finance systems.
  • Experience using Power BI or other reporting/visualisation tools.
  • Experience improving reporting processes or automating recurring finance tasks.
