We’re looking for a passionate and driven Clinical Negligence Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive to join our specialist legal team. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to clients whose lives have been significantly impacted by medical injury.

In this role, you’ll take ownership of your own varied caseload of clinical negligence matters, using your expertise to guide clients through some of the most challenging moments of their lives. You’ll also work closely alongside Partners and the rest of the team on high-value and highly complex claims - giving you real exposure to significant, career-defining work.

Knowledge, skills and experience required:

  • Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive specialising in the clinical negligence field.
  • Experience in running and managing your own clinical negligence caseload.
  • Ability to analyse and cross-reference complex and lengthy legal documents.
  • Ability to review and understand medical records.
  • Experience in engaging and conducting meetings and interviews with clients, experts and Counsel.
  • Ability to assess complex legal issues and explain difficult medical terminology concisely and in a client-friendly manner.
  • Experienced in drafting complex documents and letters.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to manage difficult conversations.
  • Experience of dealing with families of care for and look after a significantly injured family member.
  • Experience of Inquest representation desirable but not essential, either as an advocate or by instructing counsel.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and proficient in using IT to manage client/referrer expectations and case/Court deadlines.
  • Proactive in relation to matter management in progressing the case and being alive to client needs and seeking assistance wherever possible.
  • Support the team in maintaining our regional and national reputation.
  • Committed and willing to attend business development activities on behalf of the Clinical Negligence Team and on behalf of Ashtons Legal.
  • Legal research experience, providing overviews and knowledge to clients and members of the team.
  • Willingness to engage in social media campaigns to promote the team and the work it undertakes (training will be given).
  • Flexible attitude and willingness to embrace change.
  • Ability to prioritise your workload and communicate clearly to ensure work is completed by colleagues at the appropriate level, utilising the support available to you.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a supportive, high-performing team, contributing to shared goals while building strong working relationships.
  • Willingness to travel to meet clients in their own homes when required.
