About the role
- Post: Year 1 Teacher (job share for one academic year, fixed-term)
- Contract: 2½ days per week Wednesday afternoon (PPA with the other job-share partner), Thursday and Friday in class
- Start date: Wednesday 2 September 2026

This role is ideal for a teacher who wants to deliver energetic, high-quality Year 1 teaching within a collaborative job-share arrangement. You will work closely with your job-share partner and the Year 1 team to ensure a consistent, well-sequenced curriculum and smooth transitions between phonics (RWI) and whole-class reading. You will support pupils’ learning in reading, writing (Pathways to Write), and maths (Mastery approach), and contribute to a classroom culture that develops pupils’ confidence, oracy and independence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning and delivering engaging lessons that meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND and EAL.
- Supporting the transition from phonics to comprehension and ensuring pupils are heard reading regularly.
- Contributing to assessment, monitoring and evidence of achievement in line with school approaches.
- Working with colleagues, subject leaders and the pastoral team to support pupils’ behaviour, attendance and wellbeing.
- Engaging with parents and carers to build positive partnerships in learning.
About you - the ideal candidate
We are seeking a teacher who can inspire and nurture Year 1 pupils and who shares our values of inclusion, perseverance and respect. You will be:
- Passionate about primary education and committed to improving outcomes for every pupil, especially those with English as an additional language and those eligible for free school meals.
- Skilled in phonics teaching (RWI), early reading and the development of oracy and vocabulary.
- Confident in delivering mastery approaches in mathematics, and in using Pathways to Write or similar structured writing approaches.
- Able to design lessons that are engaging, appropriately challenging and accessible for pupils with diverse needs, including SEND.
- A reflective team player who communicates effectively with colleagues, parents and leaders and who thrives in a collaborative job-share arrangement.
- Committed to creating a calm, emotionally friendly classroom where pupils feel safe and able to take risks in their learning.
