Ashton Recruitment is partnering with a leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor to recruit an experienced Project Manager to support the continued expansion of their operations across Scotland. This is a senior opportunity to join a growing regional team and take ownership of high-value, complex civil engineering projects, starting with a major infrastructure scheme at Corran Ferry Port near Fort William.

Location: Corran, Scotland (initial project), with wider Scotland coverage

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £65,000 - £85,000 per annum (negotiable depending on experience)

Our client is a well-established contractor with a strong UK presence and an excellent reputation for delivering technically challenging civil engineering projects safely, on time and to the highest quality standards. They have successfully delivered several major schemes across Scotland, including:

  • £10m cable landing facility in Cockenzie
  • £10m airport resurfacing and ground lighting works
  • £24m wastewater treatment facility and marine outfall

With recent project awards in the region, they are now establishing a dedicated Scotland-based delivery team. As Project Manager, you will take full responsibility for the successful delivery of civil engineering projects from pre-construction through to completion. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, manage risk and commercial performance, and ensure projects are delivered safely, profitably and to specification. This role offers genuine autonomy, senior stakeholder exposure and the chance to shape a growing regional operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project & Operations Management
    • Lead the end-to-end delivery of civil engineering projects, ensuring programme, cost and quality targets are achieved
    • Proactively manage project risks and opportunities
    • Coordinate resources, materials and plant to prevent delays
    • Work closely with commercial and senior leadership teams to manage subcontractors and supply chain performance
    • Produce accurate progress and performance reports for senior stakeholders
    • Make sound decisions under pressure to minimise risk and disruption
  • Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ)
    • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards
    • Drive a strong safety culture across site operations
    • Maintain accurate site records including RAMS, permits, toolbox talks and inspections
    • Ensure all works meet contractual specifications and best practice standards
  • Stakeholder & Client Management
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, statutory bodies and internal teams
    • Act as the primary on-site point of contact for the client
    • Represent the business at progress meetings and project forums
    • Support the commercial team in preventing and managing contractual disputes
  • Leadership & People Management
    • Provide clear leadership to site teams, consultants and supply chain partners
    • Promote collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement
    • Address performance issues promptly and professionally
    • Champion company values and foster an inclusive, supportive working culture

Essential Requirements

  • Significant experience as a Project Manager within civil engineering or infrastructure
  • Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering, Construction or a related discipline
  • Proven track record delivering complex, high-value civil engineering projects
  • Strong leadership and people management capability
  • Excellent understanding of construction drawings, specifications and contract documents
  • Confident communicator at all levels, including senior stakeholders and clients
  • Strong IT skills, including MS Office and project management systems
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Chartered or working towards professional membership (ICE, CIOB or similar)
  • NEBOSH qualification
  • Experience delivering marine or coastal engineering works
