POSITION OVERVIEW
The Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying and tracking new clients, as well as pursuing new business development leads for future projects. This role will work with the estimating team and drive revenue growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sales strategy, team leadership, and customer relationship management. You will be responsible for developing and executing sales plans, mentoring team members, and achieving sales targets. This position is responsible for providing effective leadership in pursuing new business opportunities by collaborating with the preconstruction and estimating teams, operations teams, and senior management. This position will be a key driver in obtaining new business and maintaining our strong position with existing clients.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic:
- Develop and implement a Business Development strategy and plan for the company
- Thoroughly understands the Company’s preconstruction and construction process
- Research and maintain detailed knowledge of the industry, competition, and latest industry news and trends. Design and recommend new strategies to expand the business.
- Analyze sales data and market trends to identify new opportunities
- Collaborate with marketing and product teams to ensure brand consistency and lead generation
- Prepare regular reports on sales performance, forecasts, and team metrics
- Tracks potential projects in the planning stages
- Attends project meetings with the preconstruction team and actively works with the team to develop schedules and budgets for projects
Lead Generation:
- Generate new leads, identify and contact decision‑makers, screen potential business opportunities, select the projects in line with company strategies, and lead and own the client presentation process
- Communicate all new potential business opportunities to the company. Identify and assist in developing strategies that enable the company to capitalize on identified opportunities.
- Identify a high‑profile target list of key players in the industry
- Networks regularly with existing and new clients at various associations within the community. Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
- Attend and/or host marketing events to generate additional leads and referrals
- Develop and maintain a strong business network within the DMV community
- Flexibility to attend events at night and on weekends
Client Management:
- Prepare and deliver impactful presentations to potential new clients
- Schedule meetings with new and existing clients to build and strengthen client relationships, driving client retention and referrals
- Meet potential clients
- Attend and participate in client engagement and team‑building events, including but not limited to golf outings, charter fishing trips, and other off‑site activities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Minimum of three years of experience in construction business development
- Excellent understanding of preconstruction and construction operations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Thrives in a networking environment and confident to take on a challenge
- Assertive, self‑starter, with a positive take‑charge attitude
- Ability to accept rejection and quickly rise to the next opportunity
- Closing mentality from lead to project
- Creative and green light thinker
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software applications
A successful candidate must pass a pre‑employment drug test and background check.
