Ashton Community Science College is a Good School (Ofsted 2023). Due to the resignation of the current postholder, the Governors wish to appoint a dynamic, innovative and highly effective leader with drive and determination to lead our MFL department into the next stage of its development from 1 September 2026. Currently, all students study French at key stage 3 and it is an option at key stage 4, so the successful applicant must have the subject knowledge and expertise to deliver French to GCSE level.

Ashton Community Science College is an 11-16 mixed school with 870 pupils on roll and was rated as Good by Ofsted in the last inspection in 2023. The MFL department is small but dedicated, forward-thinking and aspirational, consisting of 3 staff: the head of department, a full-time teacher and a part-time teacher. Our deputy head also teaches some languages. We expect the new head of department to continue with the exciting work that has taken place over the last few academic years.

Classrooms are well-equipped with a touch screen interactive television, and the department has recently purchased resources to support lesson planning and delivery for all KS3 and KS4 classes in order to fulfil the needs of the new curriculum. Colleagues in the department work closely together and support one another, constantly reflecting on their own practice and supporting each other both formally and informally. They are innovative and supportive of change and new approaches.

Our goal is to be an outstanding High School, and we are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, well-qualified teacher to teach across the full ability and age range, who is committed to raising standards by inspiring learners. We want someone who will be excited by the chance to work with colleagues who genuinely want to improve the experiences and outcomes for all students. We are looking for an inspirational individual with enthusiasm, resilience, highly developed interpersonal skills and the proven ability to motivate young people.

If you believe that young people deserve nothing less than the best and have the passion, drive and ambition to make a difference as a leader in a key subject area, you would be a welcome addition to our school family.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an excellent classroom practitioner with a proven track record of exam performance
  • Have a strong vision for the direction of MFL in school and be ambitious to raise attainment
  • Have a strong commitment to engaging students of all abilities
  • Be innovative and inspirational in their classroom delivery
  • Have a strong desire to contribute to the extra-curricular life of the school

We welcome applications from experienced teachers who are ready to take the next step in their professional career and who have an enthusiasm for their subject and for working with young people, as well as those with leadership experience. You should have a real interest in a wide range of teaching and learning approaches and enjoy working in, as well as leading, a team. A full programme of support is available as part of our commitment to investing in high quality staff.

ACSC is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful applicant will be required to provide a disclosure from Disclosure Barring Service before any appointment is confirmed.

Applications should be submitted by 9am Thursday 12 February to hr@ashtoncsc.com. Please note we regret we are unable to contact individual applicants who may be unsuccessful at this time.
