Ashoka’s vision is of an Everyone A Changemaker society, where every person —and young people in particular— has the confidence, ability, and support to be changemakers for the good of all. In a world defined by rapid change and uncertainty, changemaking must become the new literacy.

Ashoka Youth Years is looking for a dynamic individual to take charge in transforming the youth years into a time where changemaking skills are as fundamental as reading or writing.

What You\’ll Do:

You will lead Ashoka’s efforts across Europe to reform institutions that shape how young people grow up, ensuring every young person leaves secondary education having mastered these four changemaking elements.

Specifically, you will create strategic partnerships with ministries of education, public school systems, teacher unions, educational publishers, teacher training schools, and other relevant organizations to embed changemaking at the core of their strategies. A key goal is to influence education systems and youth media to prioritize graduating changemakers through new curricula, syllabi, and teaching materials.

You will leverage Ashoka’s proven tools for building strategic partnerships. For example, the Ashoka Young Changemakers (AYC) program involves a rigorous selection process engaging young people directly, supporting them in becoming changemakers through launching and leading community ventures. Past partnerships have involved selecting these changemakers and co-creating new models of changemaker education.

Success in the first year would include: (a) establishing two partnerships with influential stakeholders and (b) advancing at least one model that reduces Ashoka’s direct support. Within five years, we aim to see progress on two societal metrics: (1) the percentage of secondary students in Europe who identify as changemakers, and (2) the proportion of school leaders who measure success by graduating changemakers.

Core Criteria

  • Entrepreneurial Quality: Demonstrates initiative and ownership, such as founding organizations or movements, or reshaping existing organizations. Shows relentless, realistic planning and passion for bringing ideas to life.
  • Understanding and Belief in the Everyone a Changemaker Vision: Deeply understands and believes in the vision, with a broad, inquisitive mindset connecting historical trends to current social contexts.
  • Emotional and Social Intelligence: Works effectively and respectfully in teams, prioritizing organizational goals over personal glory.
  • Ethical Fiber: Exhibits strong ethical behavior, self-reflection, empathy, and trustworthiness.
  • Self-Definition: Sees changing the world on a large scale as a core life goal.
