Ashley Kate HR & Finance are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of our client for a hands‑on, detail-focused Accountant to join their finance team. This is a 14‑month fixed‑term contract covering a maternity leave. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of day‑to‑day accounting in a busy, supportive environment, working closely with an experienced Finance Director and Head of Finance. Our client offers a friendly, collaborative culture within a small but highly capable finance team. The office is attached to the main factory, providing great visibility of operations and a genuine understanding of the business.

The role involves managing the day‑to‑day financial accounting operations, with responsibility across sales ledger, purchase ledger, reporting, reconciliations, and stock processes. It also includes supporting quarterly and annual reporting requirements, alongside ad‑hoc tasks for the FD and HOF. This is a full‑time onsite role in a busy environment where everyone works independently, uses initiative, and gets stuck in. No micromanagement, just a supportive team.

Key responsibilities:
  • Oversee the sales ledger, including handling customer queries (retail customers)
  • Complete weekly payment runs
  • Conduct VAT, PL, and sales reconciliations
  • Assist with quarterly reporting including wages, pension and reconciliations
  • Support annual gender pay gap analysis
  • Assist with stock valuation including onsite stock counting
  • Prepare and post journals
  • Payroll experience is advantageous but not essential

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Able to work independently
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
  • Comfortable in a busy, fast‑paced environment
  • Strong with systems and confident using accounting software (ideally Sage)
  • An advanced Excel user (VLOOKUPs, PivotTables, formulas, graphs)
  • Open to candidates from any industry background
  • Qualified, part‑qualified or QBE

We are dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive community. In line with our Diversity and Inclusion policy, we welcome applications from all qualified individuals, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or disability. As a Disability Confident Employer, and part of the Nicholas Associates Group, we are committed to supporting candidates with disabilities, and we are happy to discuss flexible working options. We are committed to protecting the privacy of all our candidates and clients. If you choose to apply, your information will be processed in accordance with the Nicholas Associates Group of companies Privacy Notice.

As an Accountant, it's crucial to brush up on your financial knowledge before the interview. Be prepared to discuss your experience with sales ledgers, reconciliations, and any accounting software you've used, especially Sage. This shows you’re not just familiar with the role but also ready to hit the ground running.

✨Showcase Your Attention to Detail
