Ashley Kate are thrilled to be supporting a well‑established, forward‑thinking legal practice looking to appoint a Legal Cashier / Accounts Assistant to support its busy finance function. This is a permanent, full‑time position based in the firm’s East Midlands office.

The Role

This position plays a key part in ensuring the smooth running of the firm’s financial operations and maintaining strict compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Rules. The successful candidate will be someone who is accurate, organised and confident working in a fast‑paced legal environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Processing payments including CHAPS, BACS and disbursements
  • Managing daily banking activity, bills, credit notes, write‑offs and transfers
  • Ensuring compliance with SRA Accounts Rules and VAT requirements
  • Completing daily reconciliations for client and office accounts
  • Maintaining client ledgers and accurate financial records
  • Processing purchase ledger invoices and staff expenses
  • Chasing aged debtors
  • Supporting month‑end and year‑end processes

About You

  • Experience as a Legal Cashier within a law firm is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of SRA Accounts Rules
  • Experience billing Criminal Legal Aid files is an advantage
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
  • Confident communicator with strong organisational skills
  • Comfortable using finance systems; experience with Tikit is beneficial
  • Professional, approachable and able to manage multiple priorities
