Job summary

The post holder will:

  • Provide expertise and support across the adult safeguarding agenda.
  • Work with the Adult Safeguarding Team to provide highly sensitive, complex and detailed information to other professionals, primarily adult social care. This post therefore requires high levels of communication skills and the post holder must be willing to work towards the Level 4 safeguarding competencies as outlined in the intercollegiate document.
  • Provide and maintain a comprehensive record of details regarding all safeguarding adult enquiries and referrals within the Trust.
  • Work closely alongside, and communicate effectively with, the named nurse for safeguarding adults and the wider safeguarding teams to provide an efficient and effective service to patients within the Trust; sharing learning to improve practice.
  • The post holder will be expected to work closely with adult social care to support shared decision making relating to health aspects of S42 enquiries which will require the post holder to have clinical knowledge to interpret the information required. This will include responsibility for completing shortened enquiries directly to identify learning and themes to share with Trust staff.
  • The post holder will support the wider development of the Trust as a learning organisation and will work towards identifying and supporting the development of ward-based safeguarding \’champions\’.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide expertise in the delivery of the adult safeguarding functions, to enable the provision of accessible, reliable and high quality services
  • Offer clinical opinions and interpretation of clinical information as required within own area of expertise within the context of supporting decision making and responding to S42 enquiries.
  • Escalate to the named nurse and/or Professional Head of Safeguarding, where potential patient safety issues are identified and agree handling, in accordance with legislation and Trust Policy
  • To provide a source of expertise to clinical, clerical and managerial staff on adult safeguarding issues through interpretation of legislation, guidelines and shared learning opportunities.
  • Ensure that the Trusts incident reporting system (DATIX) is completed accurately to ensure that all S42 enquiries are logged.
  • Support the Named Nurse in the delivery of on-going projects aimed at improving the understanding of safeguarding requirements, in particular the completion and learning from S42 enquiries and to create a culture where learning from safeguarding is embedded in clinical practice
  • Support the named nurse in the delivery of Mental Capacity Act training and the implementation of the DoLS processes.
  • Liaise with ward staff to share localised learning.
