Job overview

Applications are invited for an exceptional candidate with interest in Urgent and Emergency Care to join our team. This is a full-time role that is primarily based in the Emergency Department at St. Peter’s Hospital, assisting with the daily operations of and support the delivery of the Urgent and Emergency Care service.

The successful candidate will be organised, motivated and responsive with excellent interpersonal, communication and analytical skills and an understanding of performance monitoring or delivery within an NHS setting.

Providing support to the Service Manager, General Manager and UEC Triumvirate by identifying pressures and making recommendations to the Service Manager on the required actions.

The Division manages the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre, which includes the Emergency Department, the Acute Medicine service and a multi-specialty Clinical Assessment Unit and expanded Same Day Emergency Care unit, which opened in August 2021. We also work closely with our partners to oversee the delivery of diverse services including the Urgent Treatment Centre, Acute Frailty service and Mental Health Liaison service.

Main duties of the job

Operational

To work with our Clinical team leaders to ensure data is submitted in line with relevant time scales and quality standards. To achieve this the post holder will need to:

· Ensure that data is collected in line with operational requirements, liaising with teams to ensure appropriate arrangements are in place to capture the data required.

· To develop and maintain a database to allow accurate data collection, analysis, and reporting.

· Verify the accuracy and completeness of data collected to ensure the data is accurate.

· Analyse performance, providing real-time feedback to the wider Trust.

· Identify areas for improvement and underlying themes.

· To provide education/training to staff on key performance indicators requirements

Operational

· Responsible for the line management of delegated admin and secretarial staff, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery responding to variations in workload pressures.

· Ensure compliance with legal requirements and Trust policies, including HR policies and procurement policies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Business Planning/Service Development

  1. Support the Service Manager in the development of a service strategy in line with Trust Objectives and business plans / business cases.
  2. Analyse and utilise statistics and information to support the Service Managers, ADO and the Divisional Director in planning and decision making.
  3. Participate in service redesign events, including using LEAN methodology to facilitate service changes.

Financial Management

  1. Manage the resources effectively to ensure the responsibilities are delivered within existing resources. Take opportunities to improve financial performance, reporting systems and processes
  2. To deputise for the Service Manager in ordering and approve orders for stock/services for the department.

General management

  1. Support the investigation and response to complaints and incident reports in line with Trust policy.
  2. Assist the Service Managers and ADO to draw up policies and procedures for the service as required in response to and in line with Trust directives.
  3. Ensure effective communication with all multidisciplinary professions.
  4. Support the Division in development of services.
  5. Represent the Service Managers and the Division at meetings as required.
  6. Ensure Health and Safety issues are identified and addressed.
  7. Provide regular and ad hoc reports as required by the Service Managers / ADO
  8. Responsible for one’s own continuous professional development.
  9. To undertake project work as requested by the Service Managers / ADO
  10. Provide effective leadership, motivation, performance management and development processes to achieve required results.
  11. Participate and encourage developments designed to enhance individual and team capacity and capability.
  12. Manage the A & C staff within delegated areas of responsibility.
  13. In conjunction with the Service Managers, promote a positive culture of learning, development and professionalism within the services, including the provision of training activities.
  14. Ensure that the performance development review process is implemented in accordance with Trust policy, with all staff having a personal development plan, to encourage a culture of life-long learning.
